So after the chat about doing a goal ride, I felt encouraged to get out last night and do at least a short easy ride. My plan was to ride down to the beach and back in hopes of beating the warm weather. I am so glad I did. It was beautiful out and I had a nice ride. Of course, my plan was to ride easy but it's hard and I found myself pushing quite a bit. In the afternoon, there is always quite a head wind if riding towards the beach so I had to push through that. Here's a photo of my ride at the top of Newport Harbor once I reached the farthest point out:

Heading back I took the Back Bay trail. I meant to get a photo but well once I hit the trail and I caught the tail wind I was flying. This young kid passed me in the beginning when I was still adjusting gears but once I caught my cadence I was right on him and he was riding for all he was worth. Eventually his little legs gave out and I pass in a flash. Boy did that feel good! I averaged 20 mph through Back Bay and then slowed at the big climb out (there is short hill with a 15% grade), after that I slowed down to 15(and the young guy finally passed me again) and I tootled back home. Total distance only 19 miles but I felt like I did a ride.

Keep up the encouragement. I need to do this more often, I keep forgetting how wonderful it feels once I am out on the bike!!!;)

Pam, actually, when I'm feeling unmotivated, I just go out for a fun ride....no training, no worries and just remember what it is to go ride my bike. Works wonders for me. ;)

Yep. Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses, stop looking at your odometer and take in the sights.

I ride a bike for fitness and enjoyment. I hope it never becomes competitive.
