Commuting - What's wrong with this picture?

I was feeling a bit lazy this morning so instead of my regular bike commute I hopped the train down to my office.

I spotted this at the station. No one was meandering about talking on the phone or quickly returning. I'm still wondering if it was stupidity, a lack of caring, or police bait.

Probably just started bike commuting to the train station and realized they didn't have a lock and had to get to work so they figured 'heck' who's gonna steal a bike anyway? especially in the middle of the day and has taken a chance on it not being stolen before their day ends..

Maybe. Or the old stolen and abruptly abandoned trick by some jerk that just wanted a ride somewhere.

That'd be my guess. Someone probably stole it from someone's garage or yard, rode it to the train and dumped it. But who knows?

I see that all the time. Saw at least 4 or 5 unlocked bikes, at the library this morning, one was adult sized. Frequently see unlocked bikes at the local X marts. I always lock mine but don't spend much time worrying about how others do or don't lock their bike. Don't read much in the police reports about stolen bikes around here.

Yeah it looks too perfectly placed to be a forgotten dump off bike. I actually picked it up curious if there was some sort of invisible force shield holding it down. Or if it had an electrified frame that would deter me from taking it. (The thing we all fantasize about here.)

It looks like bullhorns turned upside down, but it really looks like old skinny road bars with the drops cut off. Strange either way, but kind of cool. :D

Holy crap. Now that's a dumb bike thief...they stole the rack instead of the bike!

Was that at the University station? I swear I saw that exact same bike, racks, and other bikes locked up as your picture from the light rail train as I was headed to downtown. If so, at 3pm it was in the exact same spot.

I park my bike at that rack everyday for work.

It's actually "Kickstand Parking Only." Unfortunately, that picture makes it impossible to see.

Looks like a bicycle shaped toy and not worth stealing.

It looks like bullhorns turned upside down, but it really looks like old skinny road bars with the drops cut off. Strange either way, but kind of cool. :D

I've seen this a few times. You can brake so well from the hoods using "modern" aero-levers that you really don't need to go to the drops to brake effectively. And I've seen a few people that never ride in the drops that have simply lopped them off. It looks odd to me, sort of incomplete. But I guess it'd work fine.

I would have cast a Muffliado charm, and also send some Crucio's and Diffindo's to the Wally world bikes
Then I would walk off with the nicest bike I see and Stupefy anyone who tries to stop me

Yes it was - Yeah it's so easy to notice standing there by itself. I would've at least leaned it by the fence or with some other bikes to give the appearance of locked.

Anyway good to hear it wasn't stolen - as of yet :) Maybe my hunch is right and it's a big hoax on us.

I was in enough of a hurry once in my like to leave a bike unlocked. I lost it of course. Fortunately it was a cheap bike.
