I have a Mongoose Villan, I am not sure how old it is but it hasn't been riden many times. I have been trying to get back into biking so I got it out today and when I went to peddal I almost feel flat on my face. The hub would just free wheel then I would crank it again and it would be fine. Then it would go back to free wheeling. This was not a department store bike but it may not be under warrenty any more so I'd like to try and get some idea of what I am getting into. Any ideas?

saturate the gap near the ring on your freewheel (as seen here in green) with wd-40 and start turning the chainwheel. if nothing happens repeat the process three or four times. If the freewheel starts engaging then you can throw some three-in-one oil in the same gap and work it in over the course of the next few days. The wd40 will keep killing the oil for a while, so you have to repeat the 3in1 application a few times.
