hey! went to Wash too. Lived in the Richmond until my parents got a house in Sunset.
what class are you?

Class of '89. Only took ALL FOUR YEARS to win that stupid Screaming Eagles rally.

Siu, WPOD = White Punks on Dope and SDI = Sunset District Incorporated. I used to ride my skateboard all the time at the bunkers of Ft. Miley and the Military Hospital there. Most of the WPOD's there were several years older than me but since I could ride the big bunker on my board and not wipe out and fall 30' to the ground I wasn't picked on.

It is White Punks On Dope? What does SDI stand for?

EDIT: Just saw Bostic's post.

WPOD does in fact ring a bell. But we called them Stoners. Like I said, I was mainly the one who hung out on the back cement bleachers of Wash. Then went down to hang at 7-ll. Cruise in our bad boy muscle cars on Geary then turned around and came back down Clement. This was before the Vietnamese took up shop there. Waaaaay back in the day. We used to race a lot at Great Highway. Also go down to Columbus and be obnoxious. Clean innocent fun. Yep.
After that grew old we migrated over to CT and that I found, is where the trouble was.

That wasn't my thing so I left. And never went back.

Bostic - wow, we're the same age. I graduated SH (dreaded catholic skool!) in '89! hehe!

Yeah, the WPOD's were much older but since my sister hung with them and was about their ages I got to hang with 'em as well. So I guess I was only WPOD by association since my sister pretty much guarded me from the bad stuff they did. Although I used to watch them steal cases of sodas from the Coke delivery truck while the guy delivered drinks to the store on Taraval, between 46th and 47th.

I was born in Ventura, in SoCal, lived everywhere from Guam to Florida until my father retired to Fairifeld in '76. I joined the Army, traveled around Europe and elsewhere courtesy of Uncle Sam, and decided I loved NorCal so much I returned in 88. Been here ever since. I've seen the world, 30+ of the United States, and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Came to the US when I was 10...grow up in the Mission, went to Wilson HS (anybody remember??), lived in the Sunset and now in Diamond Heights. I love the city and will never move out.

I am just getting back into riding after a 10 year break (job, wife, kid etc.) and need to get back into shape. Went on a short 15 mile ride on Canada road on Sunday. It was nice to get back on the saddle again.

Cheers.

Born and raised in the Bay Area. Old enough to remember Gemco and a lot of empty space in the bay area. Think the area's declined since 70-80's of my childhood/teens. But what generation doesn't think the new one is mucking the area up?

Wow. I remember Gemco in Stockton where the Target on the corner of March Ln and Pacific Ave is now. My parents bought me my Commodore 64 there, but no tape unit or 1541 disk drive till much later.

MTB or Road bike? Is there good MTB trails off Sweeney Ridge? Can you get to Pacifica from the top of Sweeney Ridge?

All the Gemco's became Target didn't they? Ah yes, the Commodore 64, more hours spent on that sucker than anything else until Halo came out for the xbox. The tape unit on a Vic 20 loading programs.. painful!

I like Skeggs, I just don't like driving there.

Let's plan an outing for Skeggs, or Arastradero, or whatever MTB trail is fun.

I have a MTB and I ride both Sweeney Ridge and Montara Mtn on a regular basis. I don't know where Skeggs is.... and I think I've heard of Arastradero (sp?)

I haven't fully explored Sweeney's roads.... I usually go to the top, go right towards the abandoned whatever it is then head back south to the end where it's fenced off, come back and head back down. Like today, I wanted to ride more but I had to get ready for work.

I could go for one of those outings.... but I have an awkward schedule. Sunday would be the only day that works for me.

I'm pretty sure you can by horse, but not sure if it's open all the way to bikes.
