Ok, I'll bite - I got here in 2002 (I turned 40 a while later), live in San Ramon. I was born on the Jersey Shore - we used to sneak into the Stone Pony in high school, hoping Bruce would jump up on stage with whatever band was playing that night (sometimes he did). I took the long way here - my company at the time transferred me from NY to Dallas to NY to Poland to Israel to London then finally to Irvine, CA. Then I took a job with a company in SF, otherwise I'd be looking at that Girls of SoCal thread.

Ya know....we can start a Ladies of NorCal thread but I think there's like....what - THREE of us or something? It would be boring.

What there's a ladies of SoCal thread!?!?
I was born in Hong Kong, moved to Stockton in at seven months old where I pretty much grew up. I had a pretty "normal" childhood; played with kids around the block, left the house to play all day and got back for dinner, had all the normal neighborhood dramas, and all within a Chinese community around downtown Stockton. I left for SF in 1990 to attend SF State and have pretty much been in SF till 2001 when I moved to San Bruno. I live in on campus apartments at SF State, then on 47th and Lawton in the Sunset, then Page St and Steiner in Lower Haight, then Clementina and 5th St in SOMA, then Henry St and Noe in Duboce Triangle. Now living in San Bruno, it's nice having a .5 mile commute.

I was born in Ankara, Turkey. Lived and schooled in Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, England, and the US. Since graduating college, I have lived in 9 houses in CA, AZ (twice), NJ (twice), DC. Finally moved back to my favorite place - the Bay Area, 11 years ago. Now I live along the Pacific Ocean in Half Moon Bay, and I'll never move again :D !
Born and raised in San Francisco. I moved to Silicon Valley in Dec of 2002 to cut down the commute. I still miss not having the ocean 18 blocks away but I don't miss the lack of parking. I'm up in the city one day a weekend to help my mother who no longer drives so I get my fog fix in then.
Born in Dahlgren, Virginia. Moved around the East Coast as a kid (my dad was in the service). Lived multiple places in the Northern Virginia/Wash. D.C. area before coming out to Northern California in '97. Now in Cupertino.

Born in LA, and lived in SoCal (Monterey Park, Pasadena) until 1998. Been living in NorCal ever since (Fremont, Mountain View, then Santa Clara). I still spend quite a bit of time in SoCal, so I split time between NorCal and SoCal ... still have lots of riding buddies in SoCal.
Born here (Stanford), raised elsewhere. Came back (Santa Cruz) just before turning 30.
First bike ride (with training wheels) in Southern California.
First ride of more than 100 miles in New Jersey (and Pennsylvania).
moved to SF when I was 9. Had a great welcoming earthquake. Imaging moving to a new country and BAM!~ here comes a 8.9 . Moved to San Jose a few years ago for school, now I work in Santa Clara.
It was nice living 1 block from the Ocean Beach. I go back every weekend.

Born & Raised in SF , as were my parents. I did a brief stint in Daly City' Westlake area, but it was only 6 months so I don't tell anybody ;)
My daughter is going to be 12 and will be the first of the family in a long time not to be raised here when we move. Hoping Spain, but the Peninsula ain't a bad PlanB.

Where on earth were you that you ran into an 8.9 on the Richter?
I can't imagine. I'd rather not imagine, really...
Born in SF and spent the first two years of my life there.
Then my folks followed the suburban dream -and what choice did I have?- and I've been here (<-- see left) ever since. Why would I live anywhere else?

I think he's referring to the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loma_Prieta_earthquake), "...geologists/seismologists estimate earthquake's intensity near the epicenter region at between 6.9 and 7.1 on the Richter Scale." An 8.9 would have have been a real doozy .
Born and raised in Redwood City CA. Rented in San Carlos, Belmont and Woodside before I purchased a home in Fremont CA.

Born and raised in Livermore. Now live in Moraga. Except for college (LA) and lawschool (Boston), I've been here pretty much my whole life. Other than the ridiculous housing proces and the chances of a killer earthquake hitting any time, why would I leave? :p

was it really just 7.1? I could've swore it was higher. But yea, that was the one, in 89. Hmmm...I've always been bad with numbers. But it's the one that broke part of the bay bridge and a section of the freeway in SF.

Born in Roseville, went to college in Chico (which is an absolutely fantastic town - met my wife there and we may well move back some day. I'm actually going to be up there this weekend for a housewarming... Must say the summertime riding is REALLY hot although that never stopped me from commuting by bike.) Briefly lived in SF before moving to San Mateo for 6 years then 6 months ago moved to Redwood Shores.
Yup, IB NorCal.

Never really got into the details of it all but I believe the highest Richter magnitude I've seen reported was 7.2. Also, from what I've read, it could've been much worse because, apparently, the way the fault ruptured, the energy ended up traveling in two directions as opposed to one. I was in the basement during a lab in school and never really thought much of it until I got out to discover BART was down, telephones were out, and the Bay Bridge/World Series was postponed.

Yes sir. I both work for Aero Union and I work on jets in the California Air National Guard.
Born and raised in the Sunset when my family was one of the few Asians in the 'hood! |-) My sister and I were the only Asians we knew that hung with the WPOD's and I, with the SDI's later on. Mostly because we went to school with them.
Moved to Daly City, then Pacifica after I got married.
Then got a job offer in Dallas so I moved to Allen, TX, 30 miles north of Dallas, in 2001 to buy a big *** house for very little $$. Then got a job offer in the Citay and moved back last September. We currently rent out our home in TX but live in a little hole back in Daly City for too much $$.
People in TX used to tell me how scared they'd be in a quake and I'd tell them how I chit bricks when I first heard the tornado warning siren!! hehe! I think I'd rather be in the City during a quake since I know building codes have gotten more strict since '89 rather than sit in a bathtub while the winds tear off your roof and suck up all your belongings! Luckily that never happened while I lived in TX!
Wow, that's a blast from the past, WPOD and SDI. I grew up in the Richmond district and went to Wash. Ben Davis, steel toed boots and Derby jackets.

The WPOD's were a bunch of (pardon the non-PC-ness) whiteboy punks that hung out on the corner of 46th and Taraval and the old tunnel at the Ocean Beach lots of times in the early 80's. Like Bostic said, Ben Davis, steel toe boots, derby jackets, flannel shirts... AC/DC, Judas Priest, Van Halen, etc... haha! My sister hung with them more as she is 5 years older than me. I just hung around once in a while because I would tag along with my sister. I'm sure it was funny seeing a bunch of whiteboys/girls and two Asians in the middle! hahaha!
From what I remember they were just a bunch of punks that'd steal, smoke up, drink, cause trouble and get into fights with the cholos and WC's. I think my sister said they were an off-off-shoot from the old Animals gang or something that used to hang out in the 70's(?). Most are dead or in jail from what I hear.
As for the SDI's, they were more my age from when I went to St. Gabriel's and Sacred Heart HS, mostly Irish guys. Again, steel toes, derby's, ben davis.... and again, just a bunch of alcoholic punks I used to hang with. They'd always drink and smoke in the Stern Grove area. I think most are in construction or cops now!
Does any of this ring a bell yet, Siu? :)
