Due to the August heat, I've been keeping my rides short (under 2 hrs). Today I did 25.5 miles at an average speed of 19.1 mph. That's the fastest average speed I've ever recorded on a ride of 20 miles or more. The full report, with map, can be seen here (http://nopinchflats.blogspot.com/2007/08/hammered-today.html).

Sounds great, 19.1 average over that distance is a solid ride. I too have been dropping my long rides due to heat and humidity.
I've been lucky. I live in a pretty rural area, so I leave out at 0500 with my nightsun's. I can get in an easy 20 miles before it hits 80. Did 20 yesterday and only saw about a dozen cars.
I live in rolling hills so it's hills and more hills.
Good job on the average speed. I usually average about 16 mph, the highest I have been able to hit is just over 17 for 20.

For me its just the humidity in summer. I did Ok last summer getting in some 60-70mi rides on the weekends but this year I am just getting too dehydrated so I'll still with 20-40mi rides until winter shows up. The problem with the humidity is that it is higher in the morning so even going at 6-7a is too much for me.

Good job, NAF, and nice blog, but where's the photos of your not-as-fat self?

Outstanding average! Something to aspire to.
With a 35# bike, I don't even look at average anymore, I just go by time. congratulations, on a good ride though.

19.1, that's fast. That would put you in a solid B ride catagory, almost an A ride round here. That's faster than any of my rides. Congratulations!

Good job, NAF, and nice blog, but where's the photos of your not-as-fat self? Remember, you asked for this. :)

Congratulations though, if I ever track average speed I'll understand this better.
The heat made me glad to get back home after 24 miles today. In cooler temperatures I want to keep going if my legs feel OK. The heat just does me in.
