Thinking about trying out a set of Nitto Dirt drop handlebars. Anybody have any experience on using these with Ergo shifters? I was thinking that it might be a little awkward trying to shift, especially the thumbshift, while on the hoods.

It would be a different angle on the thumbshifters. Personally, I don't think it will be much different though. Good luck

I couldn't find a good picture of the Nitto. Rivendell used to sell them, but I don't see it in the catalog anymore. The dirt drops look like this: http://www.63xc.com/mattc/midge.htm

I can't say for the DDs. I'm using Salsa Bell Lap which has a slightly deeper drop and less flare with ergo and have no problem at all. As close to perfect as I could ask.

Forget using a Midge bar with the "ergo style" levers. The angle of the drops angles the hoods in so that the thumb button/lever would actually be farther away from your thumb. The bars are awesome-- I ride the Midge bar-- but the thumb-button in that position stinks.

If you can find them, the Nitto dirt-drops look like a conventional drop, with a little bit of angle (maybe-- i can't tell from the photos i've been able to dig up on the internets) and some flare to the bottom of the hook.

NOTHING AT ALL like a Midge bar. So they would work fine with an "ergo style" thumb-button shifter set-up.

I went ahead and put on the Nitto dirt drops and my Ergos. I like it. The angle of the shifters isn't too severe and I can shift either on the hoods or the drops. Where the bars really shine though is in the drops flying down a fire road. I feel a lot more in control with the wider bars and hand position.
