I took the "scenic" (20 mile) route home from San Mateo to Foster City on it last night.

Sorry, can't help it but that was a common bike joke.
I actually like your bike. My kind of colors too. I have a black Allez with orange saddle, rims, tires and bar tape. My holloween bike :)

Here's my first "true" road bike. Was riding a very flimsy Dawes Lightning DLX (Heavy clunk of metal that it was) until now. Not a Carbon Fiber beast or a class Campagnolo-equipped bike but heck, plenty enough for a 17 year old trying to earn his legs.

That saddle looks to be FAR off level. When you're riding, do you feel like you're having to reach out for the bar?
MiqueMaus
10-31-07, 12:52 AM
Nope. It's just the tilt of the bike. The rear tire of the bike is resting on the ramp section of the sidewalk so it's a couple inches lower. That's why it looks like it's tilting up. Seat is very very slightly above being parallel to the ground. Can't wait for the weekend to really throw in a long ride. :)

I forgot to say that bike looks very nice! I like the polished aluminum look. At 17, I'd have KILLED for a bike that nice.
WRT saddle angle - I hate to quibble, but in that pic, holding a straightedge from hub center to hub center (level for the bike), the angle of the saddle is at least 5 degrees off of that. It looks like it's parallel to the sloping top tube.
Still, whatever's comfy. Personally, I find anything more than a degree off of level feels either like I'm reaching out for the bars (nose up), or leaning on them way too much (nose down).

My 2003 Time VX Special Pro. I bought the frame used from the Sierra Nevada team and built the bike piece by piece with Campagnolo, Mavic and FSA components.

My first single speed/fixie just arrived! It's a 54cm Motobecane Messenger. It's supposed to be my beater commuter bike but to tell you the truth, it's quite a bit nicer than I thought it was going to be. Sure, the components aren't that great but they don't look like their going to catastrophically fail on the first ride out or anything. More importantly, the frame is welded nicely and the paint looks pretty darn good actually! After removing the stickers, I think even the clearcoated branding looks pretty good!
Other than having to wait a month for it to ship, I have to say I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Everything was packed nicely, and they even included a 17T freewheel which I did not think was part of the deal. We'll see how it rides tomorrow...

Nice bike Jin. That's cool. Couple of suggestions... remove canti bosses on fork, get some 700x35 tires, strap front battery pack to stem, put rear battery pack in the seat pack.
Bought a new bike today, a Specialized Langster 2008. My commute to work is under two miles and I had planned on trying a fixed gear at some point. What a very weird and direct sensation riding one for the first time. There is a nice big parking lot at work so I spent about 1/2 hour riding around and getting used to it. I swapped the saddle for another 143 Alias I had and changed the stock pedals to Look Keo's. 19lbs, I thought it would be higher actually. The default thick bar tape had gel padding under it. I'm going to rewrap with some Deda shortly. The Tektro brakes are a total Campy ripoff but what the heck, they match the Pedal Force Chorus setup.

Hot off the stand, tonight. My daughter's new bike, built by "yours truly", on a vintage Italian Battaglin. Out with the Shimano SIS indexed 6 speed, in with a whole new 10 speed Campy group.

Yes. I did a ~30 mile run with a felow BF member, then we returned to the house and took her and mom down the blvd to Starbucks and back on a milk-run/maiden voyage. She liked it. :)

From in-person, up-close-and-personal, I-was-there, first-hand knowledge, I can verify everything BBM said. I can do that because (1) I went on the ~30 mile ride with him (about 27, actually, according to BBM's Garmin) and (2) I tagged along on the Starbucks/maiden voyage run.
The Battaglin looks even better in person than it does in the photos, and bigbosswoman jr. really liked it. That smile in the one phot was not forced.
Yet another fine build from the BBM Shoppe, and another fine day in the sun.

If my eyes don't deceive me, she'll be outgrowing that bike just about the time my daughter will be about the right size... you know where to reach me.

Yeah - she's got a couple of inches clearance over the top tube, so the frame could be a bit taller. But, the cockpit reach to the bars is right, so the frame fits fine - for now. Also, I used a 60mm stem so I'll be able to stretch her out further as she grows, until her legs get too long.
When she outgrows it, the Campy 10sp group will probably get migrated off to whatever frame I find for her, and the Battaglin will get sold as either a frameset or built back up with the original Shimano SIS 6 speed group.
But that frame is SWEET, and your daughter will love it. :)

Or your place of employment.
Even without the license plate you can tell by the architectural style he lives in a home built between 1986-1992. In Sac my guess would be Natomas or the Pocket. Not that I'm a detective or anything. :p
