My first post here, and my first bike above. It's an 08 Cannondale Synapse SL3 Compact. I was going to get a Synapse 5 but found that bike on craigslist from a shop in Redwood City (60 mile drive!!) for $1100 off. The same price as the 5 at mikes bikes. Without the lights, bag, bottle or compy it weighed in at 17 lbs stock, size 56.

That's a classy bike. I like the copper.
Here's my Patrick Nagel bike. A neighbor was cleaning out his garage and gave it to me a few weeks ago. I was going to convert it to a (freewheel) single speed but when i cut off the old black bar tape, I saw the original hot pink tape underneath it... and a plan was born. I would just bring it back as close to its original rigging as possible. New chain, new brake cables and housing, new pink bar tape and matching water bottle cage set me back about $30 and some Performance points. I had to do some hack work on the front brake which had lost the original QR mechanism somewhere along the way; fortunately I had some Dia Compe Gran Compe 500 brakes from another rescue project -- they are copies of these Ultegra 600 and the mechanism was compatible, so that was lucky. I'm not an instant Biopace convert, but it's good fun to tool around the neighborhood on, we'll see how it does on the commute tomorrow. More at the flickr link.

I need neighbors like Ahpook's.
OK I fixed the seat and rode it 20 miles to work this morning. It's definitely too small for me :) but other than that, a sweet solid ride. The only thing I noticed about the Biopace chainring is that it tends to make me wobble my hips more than I usually do.
I do have to move those levers down, rerun brake cable housing and re-tape the bars though. They are up too high to brake from the drops easily. *sigh* Maybe next weekend...

Thanks, cdejesus and beaker,
I still haven't decided whether to make it a fixed gear or not.
That would mean relieving the IRO of its wheelset. :(
And it would make the bike less friendly for hauling loads up hills
(once I get the racks mounted on it).

Really like tha Iro and the Moto!...but I like ones speeds...and the little one ain't too shabby!
Here's the latest incarnation of my 89 Trek 660, currently set up as a cheapskate SSCX bike. Worked great in September on a dusty course but not so great in the sticky mud of November...

Very cool. I can see why mud wouldn't have much room to clear the seat tube and stays.

I imagine it is the brakes that are the problem.
Yes, exactly. This is what they looked like after I cleaned them out. Had to pit on the 3d lap actually and beg the mechs for a screwdriver.

I've been contemplating having canti bosses added to my Univega Viva Sport.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3225/2913653864_4aa56d86a0_o.jpg
Yeah, that's an option I thought about. I could get a CX fork and see how much Steve Rex would charge me to braze on some canti bosses. (Probably more than I paid for the frame in the first place. :)

Here's my Univega with cantilever brakes bosses added by Bernie Mikkelsen. The paint was gone after he did the brazing and I considered having the frameset powdercoated but I just made do with my kids' acrylic paints and an old rattle can of clear Rustoleum.

I picked up a late 80's Tommasini frame this summer. The paint had a number of scratches and scrapes and the Italian flag green/red/white fade scheme was not doing it for me, so I had my son's housemate who runs an autobody shop throw some white pearl paint on it, which is now topped with some replica decals.
I finished up the build a week or so ago. Components are "mixed-breed" campy: Chorus levers, FD and pedals; Record hubs (with Mavic Open Pro wheels); Centaur compact crank, brake calipers and RD; and a classic fluted Record seatpost circa 1982. In deference to my creaky back and neck, I did commit some non-Italian blasphemy by putting on a Japanese (Nitto) long stem and some wide bars, but in my defense the finish on them is really nice.
The look is black and silver on white, so it's pretty understated, but after a few short shakedown rides the ride is sweet. :D
Here's some pics...

The search is on for gold bottle holders...
Here is the 2007 Jamis Eclipse build. Everything came off the Pedal Force RS except the front derailleur clamp on and the 2009 Veloce alloy levers. 17lbs. Will chop the fork in a month or so once I settle on the right amount of spacers. Rides like steel, climbs like carbon.
