Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - armband based headlight-taillight combo

I briefly spotted a headlight-taillight combination with armband strap last weekend on ebay. The light has the batteries in a central shaft with the two beams forming a T. Anyone know where one can find these things?

Is there a specific name for this type of light?

It's a rarely seen enough item that I don't think it will reappear, plus I don't remember what search brought this item up.

I don't believe it was LED-I believe it was incadescent.

I did a little digging on the Internet and the only information I could find on armband headlight/taillight combos was a reference in RoadBikeReview.com's archives from 2001 to a Castelli arm band light:

If you are just trying to get the smallest light to make you legal there are cheaper ways to do it. If you are thinking safety, forget this light."



When I searched for Castelli, most of the sites were for Castelli apparel and in non-english. Perhaps the ebayer had misidentified it and it should be a leg band light. When you think about it, an armband headlight would be impractical. However, a leg band headlight would make more sense, though not much more. Searching for "leg band lights" brought up a bunch of those crappy sites that try to make money from somebody clicking on their links, but no real helpful information.

You'll just have to search with terms which you feel fit the product you saw.

These date back to the 1970s and were called arm lights or leg lights since you could use it either place. I know I have a brand new, unused one socked away someplace. If they could be cobbled to accept the three to nine LED flashlight head that has shown up in our local dollar stores (operates on 3 alkaline AA batteries for many hours) it would be worth using. Originally they worked on two C cells and weren't all that bright. It was something to keep yourself semi-legal to ride after dark but were worthless to light the road. Some cops insisted the light had to be mounted on the bike, not you.

I have a HPV Corsa recumbent trike and with all the fiberglass body, it's hard to find any place to mount lights so it could be used at night.

Also, I ride a lot in wooded trails and riverfront trails and its nice to have a directable light -especially witih concerns of fallen trees over the trails or deer jumping out in front of you. Be nice to have something for nighttime nature viewing.

Also it'd be nice to have a quick spare to grab with fresh batteries before going on the long trip.

Ebay "advanced search", there is a check box for completed auctions only. This will help if the guy is using ebay as a store to sell a bunch of them, or to look for more info on it.
Also a nice tool to see what things actually sell for, instead of going on faith or current auctions which haven't had the price jumped yet.
