I'm getting ready to install a Hollowtech BB...


Got any tips on gauging torque while using a tool that doesn't fit a torque wrench?



I'm using this for the bearings:

That's right. I can't get Shimano parts in Shimanoland.

And Shimano doesn't let US dealers ship Shimano parts.




It's almost as if Shimano doesn't actually want to sell its products anymore...

The torque spec is 30 or 35 lb/ft. Imagine a 30 pound weight on the very end of a foot long wrench and try to mimic that. If you're a couple of pounds off in either direction it won't matter. Lots of good mechanics have worked successfully on bikes for decades never using a torque wrench.

Put the tool on the BB. Measure the inches from the center of the BB to the center of the hole in the handle. Convert the torque spec to inch-pounds. Divide the inch pounds spec by the number of inches you measured.

Get a fish scale, attach it to the hole on the handle and pull to the pounds you calculated above.
