SO yeah - I did 40 miles today.

I hadn't got to ride the past couple days, and it barely broke 70 deg today so I decided to do a 30 mile course I had done once before (which killed me). For those familiar with the area, it is Kent, OH to Peninsula, OH. and back. Well I got to Peninsula and just felt fresh so I did 10 miles on the Towpath there, then rode back to Kent.

I put off returning because as soon as you leave Peninsula, you have to go up a pretty large hill (about a mile long, i dunno the grade)... the hill kills me. Going down I hit 38mph and went 7mph up it, lol. I could care less about the speed... because I didn't need to stop or coast at any point. I spun that bugger out.

With almost 3 hours in the saddle in gymshorts, I'm beyond sold on my Brooks saddle. No numbness or soreness at all. I had a little numbness in my feet from mile 30-35 but that happens I guess.

Haha, my entire body hurts. Aches is more accurate... I'll be fine in a day or two.

40.05 miles.
13.7mph avg
Surly CrossCheck with 32mm touring tires.

I'm going to try to get that average up, the hills really killed it for me. I'm not a climber yet haha :)

Any advice for a "Recovery ride" tomorrow??

Great job. When I did my 30 last week, I felt like I could do another 30 without any problems. I didn't even hurt the next day.

Way to go! I did 40 on my 40th birthday! Which reminds me, my birthday is coming again next month, I better gear up for 41.

As for the recovery ride...5-10 casual miles should do the trick.

I felt the same way after my first 230 miler although it did take me 2:40 to complete the ride.

51! I'm left feeling unsatisfied there! Go find a smiley--I know* you have a perfect smiley for that! You've been on a smiley roll lately...

Edit: MUCH* better!

230 miles in 2:40! That's Ryanf territory. You really "drope the hamer!"

give yourself a year and maybe you goal will be a century. That was my first years goal.
