My XT should be coming in tomorrow :D I just took off my old Acera. Is there anythiing I need to be aware of when putting on the new one? Aside from putting it on the way I took it off, it looks pretty simple.

Yes, it will be simple and the instructions that come in the box are worth cutting (to get rid of the languages you don't need) and keeping.
This is also a good time to swap in a new cable and consider new housing. A bike that came with Acera sure didn't have high-end, long-life cable housing.

Also, don't forget to look at the chapter on RDs in Barnett's Manual. That helped me immensely when I installed my XT piece. Got the tuning right the first time!
If you live in dusty, dry areas, I've heard you should get teflon cables because of their self lubricating qualities. If you live in fairly humid places, with not much dust, you can get away with just running some grease through the cables and housings without having to replace them. The problem with greasing cables in dusty areas is that the grease will attract dirt into the housing and increase friction of the cable over time.
I'm experimenting with grease now, even though it's very dry and dusty here. I'd like to see if that stuff really is true. But when I get my whole 9-speed conversion, I'll probably go with teflon cables because it just gets rid of the hassle of greasing the cables. Quite messy.

For the cost of a new cable and housing, it's worth to replace them. Cables @$4.00 housing about $1.00/ft.
Don't forget some new ferrules. Little caps on each end of the housing. Some are plastic, some are metal. Get the metal ones. You'll probably need six of them for the rear cable/housing. There are usually three sections of housing on most bikes, so you need 2 per section.
