Just purchased a mint pair of 7-speed Sachs brifters and am trying to figure out what rear derailleur they will control other than Sachs. I know the later Sachs units were near copies of Campy rear derails but I'm at a loss as to what these will be compatible with. I was told they would work great with Shimano 7speed rears but found that hard to believe.
Also, do they work freewheels or cassettes or does it make a difference.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Quit impulse buying before doing some research?

I didn't even know there was such a thing.

Shimano 7-speed cassettes and freewheels are spaced exactly the same and will work with the same 7-speed index shifters. They will certainly work with Shimano 7-speed shifters but Sachs? I dunno.

I'll second the suggestion that you understand what you are buying before you buy it. However, you aren't alone in that as this forum gets a number of postings in the form of "I just bought an XXXXX. What does it do?"
