Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - So I found a good deal on a Pista

My LBS has a bianchi pista for $400, but it is a 59cm. I'm 6' and the bike doesn't feel uncomfortably big, but I agree with the shop owner that I'd probably fit a 57cm better. This deal seems too good to pass up though. Am I right?

That's fairly cheap. Most places sell a complete pista for about $600.

Its not a good enough deal to cop a bike that doesnt fit right, take it for a spin and see how it feels. I'm also six feet and ride a big 56.

That's too big hommie. Maybe on a road bike but track bikes should a 1cm smaller than road bikes, in my experience.

I'm 6'0" and ride a 59cm Pista, but it all depends on your own body dimensions and everything. Test ride it and if it feels good, go for it, but don't fool yourself into thinking it fits if it doesn't. I have plenty of standover room and with a stem swap it fits me perfectly, but my friend who's the same height can barely get on it.

Would you buy shoes 1 or 2 sizes larger if the price was right?

Well I rode it and it felt pretty close. I didn't feel stretched out and I got good leg extension. The seat was raised a good bit. Only thing I noticed was that standing and pedaling did not come as naturally as pedaling while seated, but I wasn't sure if that's how it's supposed to be. I also thought trade for a nice ride in my size may be a possibilty. There are hardly any nice bikes going for $400, but an owner of a slightly too small frame may want to trade for a slightly larger frame. I suppose I was thinking someone may want to trade a bike worth more than $400 for the pista that I'm considering. Anyway, thanks for all of your responses.

damn, i already bought my 59 pista. 650 with Chicago tax.

there's a 55cm at a pawn shop for 250. it has a ghetto wtb seat and chewed to **** bar tape... not to mention some ****ed up tires. i passed it up.

Bianchi is one of the few builders to measure center to top meaning if you measured center to center it would be 58cm. Also lots of people are built differently, if this chap has long legs he could be golden with a shorter stem. Go ride it and find out.

BTW my pista is a 59cm and I'm 6' 2". 59cm is the only size with parallel head tube and seat tube angles.
