flat tire

I know most cyclist are carb pushers, but I have been on the low carb diet in the past and felt I have done very well with my rides up to 50 miles. The longest ride I have ever done was 60 miles. This ride, however, exhausted me, but I did not eat anything for breakfast and only some nuts at the midpoint. Also, it is hotter than heck in south Texas during the summer, and being a native Yankee, I hav esome problems with the heat. The 50 mile rides have gone well with a few sausage links or pieces of bacon in the morning, some water hydration before the rides, and a low carb bar/nuts and water while on the ride. Atkin's actually mentions one study of cyclists doing better on a low carb diet in his book. I am thinking about further testing the low carb approach with cycling. The biggest thing to worry about is dehydration. I probably would look funny eating bacon and sausage at the midride rest!
