I have a buddy that is getting rid of a bike http://fujibikes.com/2007/bikes.asp?id=278&subcat=
A 2007 fuji newest to be precise. Could this bike be upgraded to tour? Things that red flag that I notice (I have limited exp. on a stock touring bike, Randonee) is the wheelset might be to weak, gearing to high (is also bottom of the lin shimano sora) and carbon fork isn't really front rack compatible. Shoot it down or give me some tips... Any info is appreciated I'll probly end up picking it up anyway as a backup commuter... let me know what you guys think.

Sure, light touring. Unless you are really fit and strong lower gears are called for. Heavier tires maybe. I heard of a guy who took off on his Masi racing bike to do the Transcontinental with his stuff in a knapsack.

I'm on my fourth touring bike, a Bruce Gordon BLT.

Anything is a touring bike if you pull a trailer:rolleyes:

Gearing is high. It will cost you to switch to a lower gearing.
The wheels have 32 spokes. This is low even for a trailer.
Pretty heavy bike.
If its good price, and you want it, go for it.
This is not a good tourer to put panniers and go unsupported.

Thanks for your help so far. I wouldn't be doing anything longer than 3 nights... would be light touring. The fork won't accept anything bigger than a 25, any recomendations for a decent low end touring fork. The stock tires are 23s would I need different rims to increase the tire width up to touring standards. I'm in decent shape (try to ride 20-40 miles a day). Changing the gearing would be out of the question right now but I am interested in a different fork and fatter tires. Any thoughts?
