Mr. Beanz

I liked the pics I took on today's ride. I've mentioned to a few here why I won't take Gina on GMR rides during the hot months. I always tell how she struggles in the heat. She even struggles on the flat course when it's hot. I can't imagine what would happen if she were to try GMR on a hot day. I think these pics say plenty.
Yes Nachodude, same pics, different forum!:D
Well on Saturday, she struggled bigtime. We were on our usual 42 flat ride. I held a decent but ez pace knowing she struggles in the heat. On the return, she totally pooped out. I pulled her of the trail, sat her in the shade and finished the last 10 alone. I was to return with the truck. I busted my hump back in the heat to keep her from staying out there too long. I got back to the firestation (leaky faucet) only to find her in the shade with two guys drinking cold softdrinks. WTF! I got closer and realized two of our buddies had ran into her at the parking lot and offerred to stay with her till I returned.
She cut the 42 miler at 34 with a 16.3 average. She had enough for the day. I was scared to take her out today again because of the heat, but she insisted. A good dinner and plenty of fluids so maybe she would be ok. I started out today at a slightly easier pace today hoping to conserve her energy for the return. A couple of miles into the ride I realized I had forgotten to refill the Gatorade baggy. Oh yeah, I forgot the Clif Bars too. I had some powder so I'd mix it for her. I'll just lick my arm to replace the salt I lose. We stopped at a small store for the bars.
We stopped for a couple of minutes at the Honda Center stop when BF'er Chuck5.2 comes flying up with another rider at 26 mph. He saw us so stopped to chat for a minute. He was doing a short fast ride but decided to slow it down and extend his ride to the coast. He rode our wheels as I set the pace for Gina. He offered to pull but I wanted to control the pace so I declined any help. He sat in the back restinghis legs after some hard efforts. I knew what he was doing. Resting his legs for the fast ride back with the tailwind.
We got to the beach and stopped. He continued to the snackbar and offered a Gatorade, Heck yeah! He returned with an ice cold G-Ade. Wouldn't take the money for it, nice guy! I gave it to Gina and mixed the powder for myself. He took off with the wind while we sat and talked with BF'er Lucas for a while.
After our chat, we headed back. Gina was doing fine till right before the HC. She was overheating again so I asked if maybe we should replay yesterday's ride. She insisted on completing the ride. We stopped for a few minutes while she covered herself with water. I had never seen her do this before so I knew she must have been hot. We continued after the soakdown and a few pix. I held the pace down on the remaining few miles. She said I could pick it up a bit but I kept her down to be safe.
She finished the ride stronger than the day before. I'm shocked that she did better the day after a big sruggle. She finished the 42 with a 16.8 average. Day before was 34 with a 16.3. Hmm, maybe she was hiding some synthetic testosterone somewhere! I've heard they do that in the TDF!
I just wanted to post the pics cause I think they show how much of a struggle the heat can be for her. I'm proud that she was enough of a trooper to come back and finish the ride and do better a hot day!
For those of you that maybe don't believe me about the struggles in the heat, here's some proof!
First pic. Chuck5.2 checking his top speed of like 48 mph:D

Early miles, Gina still smiling and somewhat fresh

Next pic, same spot on the return, late miles, not so fresh with soaked head

Last pic, puckered sweaty sour face but insists on battling the heat!
