In a hotel room on business. No riding. Pooh!
By the way, perhaps my luck in general is shifting. I took Southwest from San Diego to Oakland, and since I was squeezing into an earlier flight and nearly the last one aboard, they had to check my luggage.
You guessed it -- when I got to Oakland, the luggage was lost.
BUT!
Somehow, it had been pulled off the conveyor belt and put into a big pile of luggage coming from Chicago. I only found it after filing my claim and looking one last time and there it was!
Still, no riding until Friday. Sigh. You guys have fun!

Whenever I hear a grown man scream "Pooh!", I know the world as we know it is coming to an end...

Get used to it. "Pooh" is moderator-approved and politically correct.

.....with those Memphis blues again.
Well Pooh may be P.C. As a member of the thought police I have to tell you that this is totally unacceptable because we know what you are thinking. Until you can only think good positive thoughts you will never be accepted into the P.C. mainstream. This maybe a good thing which means you are more normal than the P.C. faternity.

Oh, poop.
Assuming you have time to yourself, and that may not be true, jump on the BART and go to SF and get off at the Embarcadero. Take a cab or ride the F line Historic Trolley to Fishermen's Wharf. Rent a bike at one of the numerous rental shops (they feature, upright bars, platform pedals and you can rent a helmet) and ride across the Goldengate Bridge. Cruise around Sausolito. Take the Ferry back to the Ferry Building (not Fishermen's Wharf) and walk to the Embarcadero BART entrance. Return to Oakland. You would need to head out around 3PM to get it all in.
A shorter version would be to go to Fishermen's Wharf, rent a bike and tool along the Embarcadero.

Gee,
Is this the trip you were going to pull out that fantastic stuff we offered up a few weeks ago on "Corporate Risk Taking"? By the way, I checked the mailbox and my royalty check has still not arrived!

Whew, when I read it, I thought of my step-grandmother who got stuck in a bathtub for 4 days and couldn't signal anyone to help her get out. Glad you are okay.
With another suitcase, being $300, you could have taken Ruby with you. Now I got myself thinking again.

Go over to Walnut Creek and visit Rivendell Bikeworks. They're a cultish champion of old style steel frames and stuff that works. Be a good experience for your cycling education. I think that Grant over there has some great ideas about bike fir and how to be really comfortable on a bike.
