I dropped a quick 20 pounds since I started riding regularly again back in Feb. - and that's without changing my eating habits. However, I did stop going to the gym!

I'm afraid I'm going backwards over the last month or so - time to pick up the intensity again.

777 is a mystical number and represents the good in the universe :), opposite of 666  although I don't buy into that crap but it's interesting.
Pete

Funny you mentioned this

"Zorrov" is short for "Zorro Vengador" (spanish for "Zorro the Avenger"). This part comes from college, when a beautiful classmate (I was too shy to talk to her), whose nickname was "heart-breaker", left her computer account open. So, I figured that was my chance to leave her an "anonymous" love message, and signed it as "Zorro Vengador".
But shortly she got help from a sys-admin and quickly figured out who was responsible for it :p
So, few minutes later, back at the class room, with a very sensual voice, when everybody was quiet, she called me "Hola Zorro Vengador".
:D
And that was it. From that point on, most of my friends calls me "zorro". Some people doesn't even know my real name.
Anyway, and the "999" part was my way to make it the opposite of "666"

My handle is from the name of our mountain bike tandem. My wife and I are now getting back into riding after many years off. Give us some time to get back into shape and hopefully we'll be riding with you all.

Interesting your real name is Angel, I would say that's pretty cosmic. I studied a book for 20 years and It's main theme is the the Universe and I'd see 7 pop up alot and in my life. I also play 7 string guitars and they make perfect sense to me, I own 4 of them....Maybe I should by a Seven bike !
BTW we're you planning on doing that Thursday city ride?

No :(, it's hard for me to leave early from work (Software Engineer, working in San Mateo). I recently moved to San Francisco and I figured it was a good chance to get more familiar riding in the city. Maybe next time (on a weekend).. Gracias !

Hermes

Hermes…hmmm. I have always been interested in Greek mythology and I thought it was a short snappy username. I draw no comparison between the mythical Hermes and me. Even though, Hermes was …

“Known for his swiftness and athleticism, Hermes was given credit for inventing foot-racing and boxing. At Olympia a statue of him stood at the entrance to the stadium and his statues where in every gymnasium throughout Greece. Apart from herms, Hermes was a popular subject for artists. Both painted pottery and statuary show him in various forms, but the most fashionable depicted him as a good-looking young man, with an athletic body, and winged sandals and his heralds staff. His Roman counterpart Mercury inherited his attributes, and there are many Roman copies of Greek artistic creations of Hermes.”

I do not have any winged sandals or a heralds staff.:D

I was hoping to confirm (last minute), but I'm not going to make it.
The weather is great today in the city, I'm sure it will be a nice ride and a delicious falafel. Enjoy ! :)

Back in my kitemaking days, my husband & a bunch of friends & I used to attend a kitemakers’ workshop every year in Middle-of-Nowhere Texas (Junction, to be exact). To get into the spirt of things we gave each other texas-style nicknames – hubby was LeeBob, friends were EddieBob, BonnieBob, and ScottieBob, and of course I was JoBob. It’s also a homage to Joe Bob Briggs, a movie reviewer known for the line “Joe Bob says check it out!”

my handle is a combination of my two favorite bikes I've ever owned.... I'm talking motorcycles here as I am a huge motorcycle enthusiast and have owned 14 of them in the last six years.

RSV-Mille is an Aprilia, Italian motorcycle that was my pride and joy

And the R1 is a Yamaha that was just so much fun to ride :D

Nice, I have a friend who currently has an RSV Mille R Factory, and his previous bike was an R1.

My name on BBSes back in the day tended to be "enigma" for no particular reason. When I ventured onto the internet, it was usually taken, so I tacked on a number I'm fond of, 136. I was enigma136 for quite some time, but I eventually shortened it to x136 (Where "x" in mathematics is an unknown, an enigma). That's what I've gone by since.

Velodiva
01-09-08, 12:21 AM
As you likely know, "velo" means speed in Italian and bicycle in French. "Diva" was originally used to describe a woman of rare, outstanding talent. It derives from an Italian word, divina meaning "divine", which, in turn derives from the feminine form of a Latin word divus/diva, meaning "divine one."
I was originally "cranky stoker" but that just doesn't fit me - sounds like an old fuddy duddy. And while I love being Hermes' stoker, I love riding my single. Ergo, Velodiva was born.

When I was in high school I worked at a Round Table Pizza.
A guy who came in there frequently was a runner/bike racer who announces at a lot of races.

When he announced he would talk nonstop and had to say something about every racer. Since he knew me from Round Table, he always referred to me as the "World's Fastest Pizza Man" :D

huytheskigod

In the mid to late 90's, I learned to ski and really got into it. Slightly obsessive. I spent more time thinking of skiing the doing it as I lived 4 hrs away from the mountains. While at a ski shop at one of the resorts, I saw a hat that said skigod on it and liked it. When it came time to create an email address, I deluded myself that I was a ski god, hence huytheskigod. My name is Huy by the way.

Uggh! This is so nerdy.
In addition to cycling I also play a fair share of video games. After my son was born in 2005, we decided to get a pretty decked-out minivan with a DVD player, 110v outlets, a/v hookup, and basically everything but a toilet. With the wireless adapter I could even play games in the van ONLINE (if I wanted to, still haven't to this day), and that when I do a wireless search from my house I usually get 2-3 unencrypted routers at any given time in my neighborhood. Some reason the name "minivandriveby" came into my head. It's both funny and edgy at the same time. Most people assume I roll with 30 thugs in my Mom's ride, but it's meaning is much deeper than that...
Laaaaaaame! I know.
So, that's my xbox gamertag and I couldn't think of anything witty with Trek 5200 so it stuck here.

I'm from da STREETS (expletive)!!!

I worked in the music industry for 12 years and Rush is my favorite band (yes, I'm stuck in 1980). If you're in any other part of the music industry other than performing, Rush is denigrated, so it's my way of showing my independence.

Obiously I ride Mount Diablo a lot. I started doing it in 1991 when road biking was really not very popular - especially compared to mountain biking.

Over the years my riding buddies came and went, fences went down and came back up, private land was sold and purchased by the park district, cows were banned and have been re-admitted, and road riders started populating the Mountain like never before. I had accumulated a large knowledge base of information, lore, and history about riding the roads (and trails to a lesser extent), but had no way of sharing it.

In 2003 I bought a new frame and built it up from scratch and sort of logged my efforts in a journal. About that time I heard a tech radio show about how blogging was going to be the next big thing so I searched around and found a free blogger program and gave myself the name Diablo Scott. My first entries were about the frame build-up and then for a while I'd just sort of log my rides but then I saw it as a way of passing on my knowledge and love of riding Diablo (and a few side topics as well). Then I started posting in various cycling forums with my new handle. It's really fun when people recognize me.
