Hi, haven't posted much in awhile, been too busy working :(

Haven't been riding much either because of the above criteria even though I have bought a head and tail light for my rig. Put 2 folding baskets on it though for the odd ride to the market in the early a.m. hrs. That works out really well...but I digress....

I was talking to someone (at work of all places) about how I needed to get a trainer and discussed the noise levels of mags vs fluids etc....well I never knew that he liked to ride bikes. Not dressing up in costumes and the like :) but he has and does incorporate wheeled training in his health regimen.

He has of all things a roller! I never would've guessed! He invited me over.

I had never seen one although read about them, mostly bad things...like falling off and the like...But I tried it after A LOT of encouragement and ...I loved it. I've been thinking strongly about a trainer since I haven't been doing any real riding lately and have been planning to get one for the 'foul' months that are approaching. I've tried a few mag and fluid trainers and even with a dvd movie to watch, and fan, my mind still wanders to health issues....bills....family...etc...and you DO need to keep a more focused attitude on the rollers which I really liked. Perhaps after you're comfortable with it your mind can drift a bit but I found it to be very.......hmmmm...meditative...oh gosh...perhaps zen like! Good for the soul.

So I'm doing my research online.

Any Rollers Out There?

Try Craigslist, I have seen one or two advertised in the boston/worcester area.

Nope, Not here. I use an older Blackburn Wind (Squirrel Cage) style trainer with fair results. I get bored fast with it and I try any good day (32-40 degrees) to get out there and try a ride. We have a few good packed and groomed Snowmobile trails that offer up quite a work out.

I try an NOT ride on the street due to the road salt issues and the damage that it causes to a bike. I work on too many bikes that are abused and ruined by the effects of road salt to do it on my own bikes. I don't consider any of my bicycles disposable enough for that.

I have a CycleOps Mag+ and it is pretty quiet, but can get pretty loud if your really cranking lout the power and cruising along at 30 mph. Not a usual problem for me :D. To teep the boredom down, I hooked up a portable DVD in the garage and watch a movie or record a couple of tv shows or wear the Ipod. It actally makes it go by pretty quickly. Never used rollers, don't think I have the nerve.
