Northern California - NorCal's other rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, we've seen each other's bikes, but I know a number of us are also car and/or motorcycle enthusiasts.
Maybe we're just a bunch of speed demons?:D
What else do you have in your garage?
I have:
2007 BMW 328i (no picture)
2007 Ducati Monster 695

I used to ride back in the day. Gave up my motorcycle gloves and went for cycling gloves. Now I suffer from more asthma attacks!! *whheeeeeeeezzze!*

Oddly, I don't have great pictures of my cars. Here's a couple from the day we pulled the old engine from the MG Midget:

Old and new engines side by side - 60 cubic inches of pure power!

My other ride is an Acura TSX that is almost brand new.

I'm thinking you don't want to see pics of a Honda Odyssey.
I've been doing CL searches for a CB-1 or NT650 but can't bring myself
to buy one.
MsIncredible, what's the seat height on the Ducati? I'm 5'5" and sport bikes seem
to have highish seat heights which makes putting both feet (or even one foot)
on the ground difficult.

The Monster is one of the shorter sport bikes around. I think the spec for mine is 30.5" seat height (some of the other models are a bit taller), although you can't go by that alone, seat width also counts. Other bikes can be lowered, either by shaving the seat (better) or by adjusting the suspension (not as ideal).
I'm 5'4", can't quite flat foot it but I'm pretty comfortable on it. Let me know if you want to try sitting on it sometime.
Oh, here's an action shot (height only matters at stops :p)

Sweet action photo. The Monster looked like it had a much higher seat height. I'd never thought about shaving the seat though. Makes sense. Now to find a NT650 Hawk... love the v-twins.

I wish I have something more exciting like a rocket ship or something. But nevertheless family life has caugh up with my personal priorities.
So in the garage are my 4 bicycles and a '06 Mazda6 wagon. Its cool though. It allows me to haul my wife and kids and any one of my bikes to wherever at fairly ridiculous speeds. Erm...that is.... ridiculous speeds without the kids of course. Yeah.
I love all things with two wheels. Although I've owned bigger bikes before, my motorized two wheeler these days is a Vespa LX150 (http://www.vespawalnutcreek.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=04966699X8K20K2007J1I02I21JPMQ2905R0&veh=41739&CatDesc=Scooters)! Who knew 150cc could be so much fun?
I also have a Miata (like someone else above) and a Honda Fit. My daily driver is a Xootr scooter (http://www.xootr.com/xootr/MgWithFender.shtml).

I have a 2003 Suzuki sv650s. Bought it new in October of 2003 and it has almost 50k miles on it now. I actually don't ride it much anymore - half of those miles are from the first year I owned it.

I had my sitting position "lowered" by getting a Corbin custom made. Had the coloring and piping blend in with the striping of the tank.

Thanks! I used to commute 75 miles round trip 5 days a week plus lots of weekend pleasure riding. I also did a 10 day, 3300 mile southwest US tour one summer (Arches, Zion NP, Grand Canyon, etc.)
Now I've moved and my commute is only 20 miles and you guessed it, I'm too busy riding :)

jonathanb715
08-21-07, 07:05 PM
Yeah, it's a TSX - the TSX is based on the European/Japanese market Accord, while the TL is built on a larger version of the US Accord platform, so in reality they are pretty closely related. It would be nice to get the larger back seat and V6, but for a bit more than $26k I'm not complaining.

What year is that 911? Are you a Pelican?
I have the family mobile and the gas saver now, an X3 and a Yaris hatchback. But last year I sold my rice rocket to be able to move back to NorCal. I tried autoX with the SCCA but I found road racing (NASA) much more fun. I've only been at 3 tracks though. Thunderhill, Sear Point and Motorsports Ranch in Cresson, TX. Sears is my favorite! I love the carousel! You're turning the wheel left but the car is going right! That was so much fun! But now some kid stationed in KY owns it...

I thought this would be more exciting than the blue Toyota Sienna that I presently drive. After the lease ran out, I sold it to my buddy since I wasn't driving it much with two young kids. The best part of the car was the wonderful Bahama Blue paint job. I love two-seaters, but I bike to work, and when I'm driving, most of the time it's with the family. I also have a 1995 4-door GS-R. You have to push the engine to 6,000 rpm for that engine to sing.

That's where cams, cam gears, Hondata engine management and a good tuner come into play. That or use forced induction. :)
