I found some '08s for almost half off online and I was wondering if there is any reason quality wise why they'd be selling 10-20 cheaper than the past few years' models. Any info is appreciated!
I was wondering that as well

They are certainly prettier than the old models.

I would get them. They have a proven track record of good performers. I dont think the new ones have a new design/mechanism.

I am leaning that way, since for the price they can't be beat. I just wanted to make sure they didn't switch the entire thing to plastic or something.

Yeah they need to replace the grey ones on my KHS as it's decked out in black attire...:D

They are 24 grams heavier than the 07's, according to cambrias website, so they probably haven't been plasticized. That is a very nice price, as long as shipping doesn't kill I'm going to order me a pair. You know, cause the pads in my front stock tektros are wearing down.... yeah, that's a good enough reason.
what exactly is the difference between the BB7s and the BB5s? my rockhopper came with BB5s, but for that price i'd consider upgrading if it would increase braking power/modulation.

BB7s have inboard and outboard (left and right side pad) adjustment knobs on the brake it'self. BB5s only have an ?inboard? adjustment knob and I think the outboard knob is modulated by the barrels that connect the cables to frame/levers. So, no performance differences outside of ease of tuning. But can you really beat 50$ bb7s? Aren't bb5s around 40$ already?
yeah but they're already on my bike.

bb7 $50? Where can you find bb7 at that price? I have a Cannondale F5 and it come with some off-brand disc brakes and they need adjustment very often to keep them from rubbing. If I can swap for the BB7 for $100 it would be a good deal.

The new calipers look great! It looks like they redesigned the knob. That's useful as sometime the inner knob is hard to get a grip on. What a deal for 50 clams.

Well that's that then, as soon as I get paid tomorrow I'll be ordering a pair of bb7's (maybe 3? I've been thinking about putting a disc on the front of the 1x1) Now I just need to settle on a fork and I'll be ready to start building my G-Spot

You don't need 3. Two will be fine and at this price, you cannot go wrong.
or you can do like motorcyclists and have two brakes in the front :D

2 would be for the g-spot I'm building, and one would replace the v-brake on my surly 1x1, since it loses all braking power and sounds like a dying squirrel when wet.
