Mountain Biking - Specialized Hardrock Sport

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey, what do you guys think about the specialized hardrock sport? I have been very happy with but I just wanted to hear your thoughts.
P.S. I am web design and if anybody ever needs anything let me know.

I think its a great entry level rig for those not looking to spend a whole lot of money and not use it for anything too crazy. If I was just getting into riding and those were my requirements it would be one of my considerations.
Yeah thats kinda what I was thinking. Its my first "real" bike.
I've tried other bikes in that price range including the Trek 4500, KHS Alite 500, several Norcos, and and Ironhorse. I ended up buying the Hardrock because it felt better than the other ones. Get yourself to a lbs and try different bikes. Bikes in the price range all have similar components, its all about personal preference.
Is it worth it to get the Hardrock Sport Disc, or just to get a Hardrock Sport and then add better discs myself, using BB7's?
Good bike, good price.
Good for figuring out what you want to do with riding...whether it's XC/AM/FR/DH. It will give you a taste of all without performing overly well in any, yet it will still get you home at the end of the day.

I had a Hardrock as my first real mountain bike. I actually raced the Sea Otter Classic when I was about 13 on it. It was definitely great as my first foray into mountain biking. The new Hardrocks look like they're a better deal than when i got mine.
I just bought an '07 Hardrock sport disc and so far love it. As a new rider, it exceeds the requirements of my rusty abilities and is sturdy enough for my not-so-skinny self. I was comparing the HR sport to Giant Rincon based on price and features. One LBS has Spec. and the other has Giant, the Spec. store sold me a disc model for a few bucks more than the non-disc price. It seems like the HR is treated as the runt of the Spec litter, but still great bike to me.

If the Sport is disk ready, ie hubs and hanging points, get it without. The only thing I don't like
about my Hardrock Sport Disk is the fact the rotors are rivetted on the hub instead of screwed
on. So if you want to change rotors you will likely have to change hubs as well. Not sure if there
are threads under those rivets or not but may just take it apart to see. If it's not, then I'm going
to put new wheel sets on it then. If it is, I'll straighten them up and put on a different set of
rotors to combat the noise issue. I'm going to try something to quiet them down before that
and if it works I'll post my fix. Great bike other than that and I've been hard on this one since
April. No easy rides for this one and it's taking it well.

WHAT?! I have a Hardrock SD and I've been told they're centerlocks, the 6 rivets things are just for looks I think.
To Grun: I would get it without the discs. You'll that you'll probably want more after getting them. You should either add the bb7s yourself after (which will only cost like 180). Or, take the 500 you spend on the hardrock sport disc and get a rockhopper

Dude ! I hope you're right. I haven't pulled them off but it didn't look like
any centerlocks I'd seen. Thanks for the heads up, I'll check that out
because I definately want different rotors at a minimum. The BB7's you
mention are nice, I may even go that way after the season is over.

"BUMP"
I really want to keep this one in play...I gotta find out if this is true.

I started this a while ago. Somebody confirmed they were centerlocks. Look at the thread to see if your rotors look like that

Well, I feel about this bigright now !
I went to the basement and pulled the front wheel (first time since I've owned it) and
sure enough it's Centerlock. No worries folks, I'm stoked ! Thanks BenLi for advising me
the error in my ways :D Love the bike anyway, this just makes it better. I see you
posted a link in reference to this but actually looking at my hub is all I actually needed
to do. All I can say is Daahhh ! and ride on !

He has an Enduro/Cane Creek Duros/Fox Vanilla/X9 set up. He buys his own bikes.
