Recently started riding at mid-forties. I wish I'd started a decade or so ago. Really fantastic touring this island.

Hello Psycho Linguist, what kind of bike are you riding there? And why are you a Psycho Linguist?

Hi Lanky Lass,
I'm riding a 59cm Litespeed Ultimate, traded up from a carbon Felt F4C. The Ti flies. I think it might be a 2002 model.
Most of my research is in psycholinguistics.
Cheers.

I dream of going to Uchina some day.
In the meantime, enjoy the forum and don't take some of the members here too seriously! :)
Again, Welcome!

Been on Okinawa for 13 years. I'm actually from Pa too. Haven't been back in ages. Miss the greenery.

The Ti flies and so does Time...are you on Okinawa for a reason having to do with pyscholinguistics? That's a fascinating field to study, especially the subfield dealing with aphasia (and no, I am not a psycholinguist, but I would like to know why it's so hard to learn a second language :p ) .

I've been here for thirteen years teaching at a local university. It's actually fairly easy and perfectly natural for us (humans) to acquire multiple languages as our brains develop. Roughly around the age of twelve, we'll begin to experience increasing difficulty in learning an extra language. The older we become, the less likely we are to able to detect differences in the unique sounds of different languages and thus to reproduce them. So, if you have a child and want him or her to speak one or two extra languages, do all you can to expose him or her to those other languages at the earliest ages. My wife speaks only Korean to our child, and the child can only use Japanese with her friends. So, the little girl has been able to acquire ability in three languages. The trick in raising a multi-lingual child is for one parent to use only one language and for the other parent to use the other language, only.
Cheers.

Hi Brian, I'm guesing that you're either a Sailor or Marine. Were you able to do any riding when you were here?? Were you on TAD? Did you miss the typhoon last month, or were you here to experience that one?
Cheers.

Yes, that's how my college roommate learned to speak Italian :) .
