View Full Version : Guadalupe river trail
Hi,
has anyone ridden on the Guadelupe river trail between Trimble Road and Skyport? This is the part that's under construction, and currently closed. However... is it passable after 5 pm when the construction has stopped? Or is it blocked or otherwise impassable?
Having asked this, it's probably still not a good idea to ride on a closed trail as a matter of principle. But it sure is tempting.
Thanks,
Gregor

Nope. But it's closed because they are PAVING it :)
So it's good because FINALLY I can stop taking Coleman/De la Cruz to get to Central Expy on my commute from DT San Jose to San Mateo.
Are they paving? I thought they were just paving the undercrossings, like on the path north of Trimble. Or the path parallel to the airport.
"When the
project is complete, trail users will
fi nd paved all-weather surfaces at
new undercrossings beneath Airport
Parkway and U.S. 101."

It would be nice if it were being paved.
SJ to San Mateo, that's quite a ride!
Update -
yesterday I took the route I've been using. Down 1st, right on Brokaw/Skyport, turn right in the airport, then get on the path and go under Skyport. It's no longer available, the underpass is currently being paved. So I enjoyed a thrill ride, looping past the old terminal and around the cell phone lot to get to the trail.
There's certainly an adrenaline rush from mixing it up with the cars, but I'm not a strong enough rider to maintain 25 mph on the flat for more than a burst. The driver behind me demonstrated his annoyance by getting really close. It was a relief to get onto the path.
So the moral of the story is that I'll have to follow the VTA prescribed detour and take the next turn off of 1st, after going under 101.

I ride the Guadalupe trail coming from the back of the arena going North. I don't ride the dirt trail once it goes under 880 because I ride a road bike but instead ride the road parallel to it. I then ride all the way to Airport/Brokaw by taking the underpass that the cars use and come up right there. Then I hang a right and hit First Street going North to Altera where I work. It would be nice to have the path paved all the way to work just to avoid First Street. As for coming home on that route it certainly is an adrenaline rush when I have to go against traffic for about 100 yards until I can cross over and go with traffic. I try to time it so I don't have to deal with the cars coming at me. I'm sprinting so hard that it reminds me of how hard guys like Robby M. and Thor Hushvod are sprinting to the finish line.

bah, I ride my road bike on the dirt, it's hard pack and handles it fine.
In any case, gregor, what I started doing was taking 1st to brokaw/skyport, then left on technology and right on skyport. Much more peaceful than the traffic on 1st street, but essentially the same as the VTA route. Just thought I'd throw it out there.
