I was on my morning commute today on my single speed Kona Unit (42Tx17T), when a Porsche Carrera 4 (911) zoomed very close past me, crowding me into the curb on a broad boulevard. This was the 6th time this summer the same driver has done this intimidating driving maneuver, so this time I rode around the parking lot at work (a hospital), found the Porsche, and took down the plate number and description of the car. The hospital police would not do anything because it happened off hospital grounds, but they did call the city police.
A city police search of the license number showed that the culprit was a doctor at the hospital (chief of anethesiology, in fact). By this time, there were two uniformed city police as well as a three hospital police. They called this doctor in his office and had him come down to the hospital police room and gave him a good talking to. The bully arrogantly tried to defend his actions. He lied to the officers, saying he had to swerve into me this morning to avoid hitting another car (not true). One of the things he said to me later was that he would often pull up to me on my bike 4 miles from work, yet I would beat the traffic and get to the hospital before him (in his porsche). This made him mad he said, because I must be running red lights. He also said that I take up too much of the far right lane on the broad boulevard in question (also not true), so he wanted to "show me" were I should be riding (two inches from the curb apparently). He said bike riding on the street is a dangerous activity and he called me an organ donor. He tried to bargain with me, saying that he won't crowd me anymore as long as I (in turn) follow every traffic rule myself. To this I glanced at the officers and said that this (so far) is not me getting serious. Drive like that again, and I will start to get serious! That shut him up. He promised to give me plenty of room in the future. He said that when he passes me from now on, he will give me a friendly wave. I said that's fine, but don't honk.

nice man. it blows my mind a doctor would somehow justify 'scaring' someone with their car to save their life.
and what a cock-trip 'my porsche HAS to beat the bike because i paid 90 grand for this thing

Nothing that a nice quart of buttermilk in the windshield vents wouldn't fix. Gets so nice and curdled in the summer heat... mmmmmn.
Okay, okay that's fighting fire with fire. But then he'd have a STINKY Porsche.
Great story. What was the reaction of the officers when they were standing there listening to him admit that he DID use his car (a weapon) to scare you?

Oh man, I'm glad you have A LOT more self control than I. If I had actually found the culprits car...parked...empty...in a parking lot...there's no judging what kind of antics I would have pulled.

yeah I agree, this guy was pissed because you unintentionally beat him to work, but now you've called the police on him, and made him look like an idiot...something tells me he isn't quite finished with you...just be careful man.
I agree watch your back. Me I would have just poured sand down into the gas tank and watch his valves, carb, ect go to hell.

play sand. It's extremely fine. And if a small amount can get through, well....................If not then a few gallon of syrup.

better yet, shoving cookie dough in the exhuast pipe as far as you can then using a banana to push it even deeper and leave the banana in there(given you have to break it so its not sticking out of the exhaust pipe) ...haaha:D
Fvker wont know why his car wont start.....hahahah

OR, if you DONT feel like carrying around dough AND a banana, a potatoe works too...
I think he's just gonna get more pissed at you, if he was getting so upset that you beat him to work. (Red light? What red light?)
Being the ******* i am, i would've just gotten even, and left the pigs out of it...
"i'm not going to fall for another banana in the tail pipe"
Yeah, because, actually attempting to SOLVE the problem and not PERPETUATE this kind of behavior is EXACTLY what would make motorists more bold and aggressive. Not to mention the cops certainly would prefer cyclists settle disputes via middle-school vigilantism when faced with moronic drivers.

It must have been fun to watch him squirm, though it sounds like he kept his smug sense of entitlement almost to the bitter end. I can't believe he actually tried to get you to say you'd obey every law before agreeing not to run you off the road anymore. I say he still deserves a little milk in the heater vents. Who says you have to choose between shenanigans and calling the cops. Just wait a couple weeks and make sure he can't pin it on you somehow.

If its like any other hospital, the lots are on camera. They may not see you do it but theyll have it on tape that can be reviewed.
Im not sure what the OP does for a living but im pretty sure having to pay to have the stench flushed out of the vents of a Porsche would put a nice dent in anyone's paycheck.
Find him elsewhere.

You might also not want to do it while on a bike. If someone sees "some guy on a bike" messing with it, you can bet they'll blame you. OTOH, you could always say "I guess he hasn't quit ****ing with people on bikes".
You were threatened with a deadly weapon by a doctor. He should be in court facing charges.
seriously, DDYTDY makes a good point. I would talk to the local magistrate or prosecutor and see about charges being filed. Here in Va. that constitutes Assault with a deadly weapon. Theres no battery because he did not actually touch you with the car but the mere threat does constitute assault and the car is a weapon.
Cops can shoot someone driving a car toward them because it's a deadly weapon.
Make them apply the law equally. Doc should be charged.

What an arrogant a hole. If I knew where the guy worked and parked, I wouldn't have called the cops, wtf are they gonna do? Fine him? He probably spends more on insurance each month then some of us on rent.
Destroy the car, only solution.
Whoever thinks that going after this guy's car is the answer deserves to have their legs amputated. Sans anesthetics (yes, pun intended).

Not all doctors are a-holes. However, if a doctor owns a Porsche, the chances go way up. That is because it takes a certain haughty ego to buy a car like that. It also means that their motivation for becoming a doctor was not so much to help sick people, but to buy expensive toys for themselves. When I told the culprit that he was the only driver who repeatedly pulled this maneuver on me, he said that just proves I was wrong, because he also drives his Ferrari and BMW to work. If a doctor owns a Porsche, Ferrari, and BMW, the chance of him being an a-hole becomes astronomical.
I don't recommend vandalizing cars for revenge. First of all, with security cameras, it is not worth the risk. Also, it would stoop to his level and would also not stop his behavior.
I thought it was interesting how arrogant he was even when facing the many police officers, as he said that I needed to change my behavior, because I was bringing his anger upon myself, for unintentionally beating him to work on my commute. I was also shocked at how he blatantly lied, saying he was forced into swerving into me this morning to avoid hitting another car. That was such a lame excuse (there were no other cars involved this morning) and it did not explain the other times he strafed me.
As we walked back to our offices, the Porsche-driving doctor asked me "How do you beat me into work on a bicycle?" As he was trying to get me to admit that I run red lights.
I said "Conditioning, I ride 5,000 miles a year."
He said "Maybe I should ride a bicycle to work too."
I said "I recommend it to everyone" (even a-holes) *under my breath*
If you want to nail a harrassing driver, here is some advice:
1. Record the time, date, and exact location of the incident
2. Practice reading license plates on normal traffic passing you, as it will become second nature in an emergency
3. Along with the plate, get a description of the car's make, model, and color. This helps if you only get a partial plate and helps convince the cops that the incident really happened
4. Get a description of the driver, as some cars have more than one owner, or the driver can claim that he was not driving. This also helps convince the cops that your account is more accurate.
5. Know the jurisdiction of were the incident took place. The police have defined territories that they will not cross or inforce.
6. Do not lie to the police, even if you think it may help your case. If I had lied and said the incident happened on hospital grounds to get the hospital cops more involved, the culprit could have punched holes in my account. As it turned out, the city police were more aggressive in finding the culprit and were more effective in intimidating him.

There was one funny moment in all of this. The city policeman got the culprit's name from the plate number I supplied. The hospital police then confirmed that he was a hospital employee....the Chief of Anesthesiology. They called him and asked him to come downstairs.
As we were waiting for the culprit to come down, the city cop and I had a brief chat and as it turned out, he was a cyclist too. He said that he usually rides against traffic to avoid nuts like this Porsche driver. I said with a smile "Don't you know that riding the wrong way is illegal?"
He chuckled and said "Hey, you've got to do what you have to do to survive out there"
I said "Did you know that out of all the medical specialties that Anesthesiologists have the highest incidence of substance abuse?"
That made the policeman laugh so hard, that he almost fell out of his chair.

You guys call a doctor who spends $90k on a car a butthole, but you won't think twice when it comes to dropping $500 on a wheelset, $1200 on some BS Keirin frame (it's only steel, I promise), and $20 for some rubber grips. Bear in mind that the medical doctor earns exponentially more than you per annum.
I'll take a PhD and a Porsche over a freaking bicycle any day of the week. In my opinion, the track bike is more of a status symbol anyway.

Dude get a life maybe I don't know whats in a freakin 90k car because I have no reason to want to know. I'm not impressed by "money" or high end cars that so called upper class drive. I happen to be car free and have been for most of my 44 years. So stick that in your tailpipe.

Take it from someone in the know. Write the Hospital's CFO or Risk Management officer and tell them of Dr. Taint's specific behavior and issues with the truth. Mention that now that they are informed of the behavior issues of their employee you'll be glad to let your lawyer work with them to settle any future accidental death or dismemberment law suits starting at a very painful threashold. My guess is that they may have a chat with the good doctor. They may let him know that when he becomes a known liability that he gets to find other employment. Hospitals very discretely watch the high salary staff and make adjustments when necessary.
Good luck.

Deal with the person, not his/her possessions via legal means. We're not kids on a playground.

I've also found that most of the people who suggest doing stuff like this generally don't have the balls to do it themselves. They're usually the "stick it to the man" type of people who can't find/are too lazy to get a real job and, in turn, decide to take it out on the rest of society.
