Just got back from the Cape & managed to get in some really good rides. One ride was up 6/6A to Race Point in Provincetown. Really pretty rolling hills & low to no traffic for a good part of the ride. About a 50 mile loop from where I was staying in N. Eastham.

Another day, I rode down to the Cape Cod Canal and back. Those roads had alot more traffic. Pretty route though. I took 6A through some very old Cape Cod towns. That was a 100 mile loop. If I were to do it again, I'd look to get off 6A as much as possible. 40-50mph traffic on a narrow 2 lane road with little to no shoulder.

I'll post the gmaps routes when I can.

The Rail Trail out there is very nice. Well maintained. It did get crowded in late morning, but I did most of my riding early in the day. Met up with some riders along the way. All in all it was great riding.

A little late in seeing this, but yep, 6A sucks for the most part. There's quite a few better side roads that are marked by the MS for their fundraiser rides. Let me know next time you're there and I can set you up with a mapmyride route.

you might want to try the railtrail to stay away from the traffic

There's a good back roads route from the N edge of the Rail Trail up to P'town. You end up on 6 for a *very* short stretch (and then 6A into P'town), but for the most part you're on paved roads w/very little traffic. A great ride.

Lucky07!

+1 for the rail trail!

I was JUST in Cape Cod...staying in Eastham also (on Perry Lane)...rented a bike from Idle Times (since my road bike wasn't available to me yet.) How funny!

I rode the rail trail down from Eastham to Chatham, then back to Dennis to the end of the line. It's a nice ride for sure, but I think going up the Cape towards PTown is a nicer ride still. As the population centers grow, so do the travelers on the path. I found that as I got closer to Chatham, I had to avoid more people. No big deal really, but you can't just shoot straight away.

Anyway, there is decent biking there, but I'm not sure you can rent a real high end road bike anywhere - if that's what you want, bring your own!

Cheers!

ZG, Russ, Yak, Nick,

I did ride the Rail Trail end to end and it was great. Especially in the morning. I brought my own bike along, so I was good to go straight away. The ride to the Canal was hectic, but worth it. I'd definitely look for alternate routes next summer, when we go back.

Eastham to Race Point is my favorite Cape ride I think, with a detour to Head of the Meadow beach. I took the RailTrail north to 6, turned off 6 at Wellfleet, then eventually back to 6A. Finally right onto Race Point road in Provincetown all the way to... Race Point! Really beautiful, especially in the morning.
