Looking back over the '03 TdF, I can recall so many great moments. I've decided that VHP's brief stint in yellow is probably my favorite story from the Centenary Tour. As the Posties crossed the finish line for the Team Time Trial, Lance asked Pena "What color jersey do you want?"
In an interview before the TTT, Pena was asked about the possibility of wearing yellow. His answer was essentially "The boss (Lance) says it's OK, so it's OK." Pena is such a faithful domestique that some of the tifosi were upset to see the yellow jersey fetching water bottles from the team car.
To be the first Columbian to wear the yellow jersey, and to do so on the eve of his 29th birthday, makes VHP's Tour performance the more wonderful. His face as he donned the maillot jaune was a textbook illustration of ecstasy.
