Advocacy & Safety - As a helmet wearing cyclist do you also support helmet use in cars?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

<So is mandatory seatbelt laws Facism?>
yup
And passing on unnecessary costs to the public for when someone gets more injured due to poor education is socialism.
Letting the guy die because he can't pay for it is capitalism. :thumb:

So it's socialist to patch up people don't know how to ride a bike nor follow the rules of the road but attempt to compensate for it by putting a piece of styrofoam on their head? :D

Has anyone made the 'They Pack TVs in Styrofoam So It Must Be Good' argument yet? I always get a chuckle out of that one.

And a common argument of the "anti-helmet" side, is that, since a helmet isn't perfect (ie, there exists accidents where it did no good), it is not useful (or even harmful).
This is, in fact, not an argument anyone on the helmet-skeptic side makes. If I believed that helmets would prevent significant injury in any statistically relevant number of accidents, I would wear one.
I don't want to speak for other helmet skeptics, but the particular argument that I make is something like "A bicycle helmet is so unlikely to prevent significant injury in a bicycle accident that not wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle is like not wearing a helmet while driving a car or while out walking."
