I think you need drum brakes.

P.S. I suggest you run a search on Mechanical / Hydraulic and then prepare yourself for a tidalwave of crap that will soon come your way via this thread which has been hashed and re-hashed enough to become a sticky...or so it seems.

Well if your buying a bike pre built you pretty much end up with hydro if you spend over 1500... I really don't want hydro, but that's probably what will come with a decent FS rig.

If I was building, cable discs are my choice

I wouldn't worry about it so much personally...buy a bike and ride it...you will know what you want to change when you ride for awhile. You will develop a riding style and enhance your bike to your personal liking. mechanical and hydrolic will both stop the bike just fine.

You can build a bike but you will probably spend alot more money then if you had bought a whole bike. Trust me I learned from painful personal experience.

Mechanical in the front, Hydraulic in the rear.

Right, everyone? :D
Here I thought it was mechanical up where the sun doesn't shine, and hydro's on the bike.

go with bb7's they work extremely well, especially with compressionless cables and housing

sweet, my friend suggested thos, im thinking Avid BB7, or Hayes MX-2. they dont cost too much, and also if i like then i can upgrade to hydros later i guess, and i can always switch back, i just like the smoothness of the hydros (ive ridden my friends bike a couple times...)

not mx-2s they are good but the bb7s are better, i have had both on the same bike with the same cables and they are not as good as the 7's. i have hydros, they are not very good but i don't really notice a difference between them and my bb7s

thanks for the help, i think ill get the BB7 cuz they sound good and my friend and i have so many parts in common on our builds, and we made the lists seperatly, so we just like the same stuff :D

http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/9005/pc2ny9.gif (http://imageshack.us) If you want a good brake, buy this hygia. I bought in taiwan and itīs the lightest disc brake (335 gr front) and very cheap, more less is 160 euros the pair. Iīm still waiting those brakes, i donīt know if they are powerfull or not (some friends told me yes) and are shimano compatible.

Hydro if you don't like changing/cleaning cables.

Hydro if you like arguing that what you have is superior.
Mechanical if you like arguing that what you have is superior.
Hydro if you had a bad experience with a crappy mechanical and wrote off the whole breed.
Mechanical if a broken hose spewed fluid on your snazzy team kit and it won't wash out.
