Bicycle Mechanics - broken chain vs. broken brake cable

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Trying to settle a debate on what's more common. What's your experience?

Chain for sure.

I've had a few cables break at the "head". They beat chain failures 2 to 1 in my case.

For me, neither. I've never broken either on my bikes.
However, I've had to repair two other rider's broken chains on the road so I guess I have to vote for chains.
Never had a broken chain or brake cable but have had a couple of shift cables break.

I've never had a chain or cable break ever. Although I had a front brake arm snap off and jam the front wheel once.

I've also never had a chain or cable of any sort break. I think most breaks are some sort of mechanical failure, the mechanic was a failure in setting it up properly.
