I have been considering using a helmet mirror and understand that while "Fredish" safety never hurts. Or can it? by which I mean is risk of eye injury made worse in a fall by a rigid metal or plastic rod and sharp? mirror near ones face? I realize that cars can injure much more seriously and the low probability of falling in such a way as to cause eye injury but I remain concerned about a mirror mount that could polk me in the eye. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.

Do you plan on wearing cycling type glasses when your riding with the mirror?
Where it mounts to my glasses is actually behind where my eye is. It appears I have mine backwards though. I have the two on the outside and one on the inside. *shrug* Still that front mounts is actually at your temple. So it would take a really unbelievable set of circumstances to get that shaft in your eye.

I used to have a helmet mirror and I don't think there is any way the shaft could get your eye. I'd still wear glasses to protect you in case but most glasses for insects and other things hurtling at you.

I think you should be more worried about the cars instead of falling down. I would rather ride my bike without a helmet before I leave my Take A Look mirror home. I NEVER feel safe anymore without this device and hearing the cars coming behind me no longer is comfortable. I need to see the cars coming behind me ALL the time. There are no more surprises of cars blowing past me anymore.

Having said that, I did fall down this past summer and my head came close to hitting the ground. My face was low enough where my Third Eye hit the ground but the mirror did not go in my eye. The glasses protected my eye and the Third Eye came off completely with just a minor fall.

Yes, it would take a bizzare set of circumstances for it to injure my eye.

For me, the mirror is essential for riding in traffic...which I do every day.

I feel the advantages of the mirror to greatly outweigh the possibility it would cause injury to my eye.

I think you should look for something else to worry about....
I have dropped my helmet and broken numerous Third Eye helmet mirrors, have never broken the mirror glass.

Yeah, same here. I've been through quite a few different makes and models since I started using them in the late 70's, and find it difficult to ride without one. If you get one and don't like it, try a different one. You can even get a tiny mirror that mounts on the inside of your glasses; those are pretty cool if you have the right glasses.

I suppose the helmet mirror increases the risk of injuring my eye in the event of a crash, but using it greatly decreases my risk of having a crash at all.

I think mirrors can be dangerous - but mostly from looking backwards too much and not enough forwards. ;)

With all of the hinges and bends in the Bell helmet mirror I can't even imagine how I could fall in such a way that the mirror would end up anywhere near my eye short of the whole helmet breaking, and if that happened I would have more to worry about.

I figure if I ever crash in such a way that my take a look mirror comes through my glasses and injures my eye, I am probably missing my nose and the majority of my chicklets. At this point the day is ruined.

Don't think you need to spend too much time worrying about this.

I expect my glasses also contribute to this risk. I wouldn't ride without them either.
