This morning I went on my usual weekday route from Encinitas to the Oceanside Pier and back. On the way back, coming to the patch of terrible road I had posted about last week -- the right lane and bike lane were closed! Lo and behold, they are repaving it! I don't know if my email to the city department did the trick; if it did, that was sure a fast and welcome response by the city of Carlsbad. I'm impressed!

Oh, and on the shoulder there was guy on a bike with a shovel and a tar bucket. I'm not sure, but I think it might have been ovoleg!

Anyway, sometimes it really pays to write to the city department in charge of street maintenance when things get bad.

Nice! Let's hope they keep that kind of service up. :)

Yeah, we just visited our daughter in L.A. She lives in Hollywood. I would hate to ride a bike around there. It makes the worst parts of North County San Diego look like a biker's heaven.

Yeah...there are some nasty streets in LA and some are designated bike routes...nice...

It might be...

If the department linked below services your area of LA, you're in luck. I've reported pot holes a number of times and they have always been fixed within two business days. I've done it enough times to think that it's not just coincidence -- If I don't report it, the pot hole just never gets fixed.

You'll also see on the form that they do more than just pot holes - you can request street cleaning, debris removal. They'll email you with a reference number once you report it.

Hmmm...I have used that also...one particularly nasty one on Forest Lawn Dr...tree roots have pushed the pavement up and forces the riders into the traffic lanes...have been complaining about this since last year...rode thru there a week or so ago..still not fixed....
Also just plain bad roads like Wentworth...just needs a repaving...or even a slurry seal woul be better..

Why do you want to kill the trees? The trees man, the trees.

My tri buddy M and I were riding through there this morning and saw the lane closed for repair. I didn't connect it to the spot you had been complaining about.

Not the trees..just the roots!

I hate Forest Lawn. Forget about the roots, Herb - it's the traffic that flies through there that you should be concerned about! But I know exactly which spots you are referring to and they are pretty bad.

I agree all them crazy drivers racing around there....but is even worse when you have to veer into the lanes...I have complained for over a year that some poor cyclist is going to get hurt really bad or worse...
