I have to learn to ride in altitude. When is the next ride? :)I'll go back up there soon. High point on the ride is 7900 feet, but most of it is above 6000. When you went to the ski lifts, the high point there is 6000, the village is only 4000. I think the problem you had is partly due to the exteme nature of the climb from the village up. There is nothing that hard on AC.
The other thing, when I do AC, I go slow and we always make it a social ride and we don't leave anyone behind back in the boonies. You are welcome to come with us the next time we go. I'll have a thread.

When are you going up?

Starting up Big T around 7am. Up Mt. Wilson. Then he's going to Clear Creek. I may head back down and save some juice for Wed.

I'll probably go up there again this Saturday. I have a friend who hasn't been able to make any of our rides this year who want's to go. She is famous for having 3 beers at Newcombs on the way back and still riding back to Red Box:eek:

Big John, thanks so much for organizing a fantastic ride. We had a great time. We are all looking forward to doing it again, but this time we are going to start at the bottom  so chances are you may never see me again :p Definitely looking forward to your next ride. It was great meeting everyone. Here are a few pictures from the occasion.

Asia, it was great to get some different people to come up there. I think more would come if they knew how much fun it is.
We usually start at Red Box to skip that lower section, car drivers can't see you in the morning and riding close to them at speed on the way down can be frightening. Plus, that's where it gets hot.
For ordinary riders like me, starting at Red Box allows me to go to Grassy Hollow or even Wrightwood and gain 9-10,000 feet. From the bottom to Wrightwood and back gets you 125 miles, or so, and 13,000 feet. This is not a problem for Keith, Vancemac, Thomson, adxm, whitecarbondude, and others, but a bit much for me without special preparation, (lobotomy?)

Nothing ordinary about you Big John....you were cruising like you were on a flat stretch  while this mere mortal was huffin and puffin.

Yes, Bob, details, please. Probably too hot to ride anywhere else except the beach. Can we make it at 7am? and beat the heat. Maybe that loop I did with Laura a couple of weeks ago. RB to Clearcreek , Angeles Forest to Upper Big T then on to Dawson was almost 9k. Dick can come out and I think Diana. It would be great to see her after her horrible crash at the Rose Bowl in January.

Vertical Bob how many miles is this proposed loop?It would be 80 miles with almost 9k but there are many options as always to lengthen or shorten the ride. Its about 1/3 loop and 2/3 out and back, if that makes any sense;)

I might be up for that, you want some company from the bottom? If you come up from the bottom you wouldn't necessarily need to come up to Red Box, you could make the left on Angeles Forest at Clearcreek. That's the route of the A.C.100.

I may be able to join in from the bottom on Saturday - I don't know if I have time to go to Dawson Saddle after going up Big T, but I should at least be able to join until that point.

I'm thinking it will be too hot to ride at lower elevations this Saturday, unless the temp drops by then.
