Mountain Biking - Building new wheels-Which Hubs?

I'm building a set of wheels, and am leaning towards Chris Kings, but wanted to see what others experiences are. I've had Hugi's for 8 years, and they've been great, but it's time for a change. TIA for the input.

Granted I have only used them for a month or so, but I second the I9's recomendation.

I'd look into Hopes as well but those i9s are being rocked by people I respect and as a bonus they look hot.

Assuming you don't have Dr. Evil's bank acct...I highly recommend the Hope Pro II's.
(though it's morally difficult for me to highly recommend anything that I've ridden for merely 7 months)

I guess I've had my mind made up to go with Kings for a few years. The reason I'm not considering the I9's is the fact that they have proprietary spokes and I've never heard of them or seen any long term reviews. I've had DT Hugi's for 8 years without a problem. I'll do some more research before I decide, but knowing my tendencies, I'll propably go with King.

Fair enough. Just so you know, the I9 hubs are available in a conventional spoke configuration. They engage quicker than the Hugis (by far) and also the Kings, if that matters to you.

I like dealing with Larry at Mtnhighcyclery.com. His web page is way outdated but if you email him he can get you the goods and typically at excellent prices. I don't know what the prices are for the i9 hubs or wheelsets but everything I've bought from him was very fairly priced.

As of nine months ago I9 Enduro wheelsets were $895 + shipping from Larry.

I just wanted to add that Larry always charges actual shipping charges and not an inflated "shipping and handling" fee. For any Canadians reading this, Larry also ships US Postal Service to help minimize brokerage fees and is very kind when stating the declarable value <nudge> <nudge> <wink> <wink>.

I did see, over at mtbr.com, a set of conventional I9's. As in, no proprietary spokes...

As for I9 dealers, what I've heard is this: Go to your lbs, tell them you want to order a set of I9's, they call them, and it takes all of minutes to get an account, and then you can deal directly through your lbs.

FWIW, I've used Hugis (pre-DT), Kings, Hadleys, Nuke Proof, Ringle, Shimano, etc. hubs in the past.

Due to the performance advantages, at this time I don't plan on using anything but I9 wheelsets in the future.

Nuke Proof hubs, now there is a ballsy admission.

AFAIK, Larry at Mountain High is their largest dealer.

In my experience he got the wheels much faster than other folks in addition to his pricing being better and his customer service being amongst the best.

And I have heard the same. I was just pointing out that if the OP enjoys doing buisness w/ his LBS, it's possible to order i9's through them.

But yes, I have heard only excellent things about Larry.

Thank's all. I'm going to contact Larry and see how his prices compare to my LBS. I'm almost convinced the I9's are the way to go.
