I'm not being honest with you people.
The bike is my second midlife crisis vehicle. I have bought and sold 11 cars on craigslist in the last 6 years. I thought I was over my "car problem" but I sold two and bought another two just last month that's why we have two extra vehicles in the garage. And that's why my wife won't let me buy another bike thinking it's going to turn into a bike addiction. I suppose I can tell her that it'll be a cheaper habit at least.

The question is: are you making money when you're flipping those cars? :)

What kind of cars are you buying/selling? A new bike should be easy to pull off if you compromise and get rid of a car.

For some reason, I'm unable to convince my wife that I need more toys. Maybe it's because we've been married 24 years and she's seen all my tricks. I am seriously hankerin' for a Ti or steel custom bike. If she doesn't let me have one soon, I'm going to withhold though that may not bother her.
How's about some advice?
Divorce then you can buy anything you want? Hey you asked for advice, you didn't specify it had to be a good one.

Isn't this like convincing IT you need a new PC ... hey, wait a minute, that's what I'm trying to do.
Be creative with jumpers on the MB. ;)

Not only is it a cheaper habit, but better for you too. :D

Nobody makes money flipping cars, but I am not flipping cars. I buy a car, get tired of it, sell it, buy another one, get tired of it, sell it... I have two in the garage that I cannot bring myself to sell. Luckily, she doesn't want those sold as well. Still, she's thinking I'll do the same with bikes. She's probably right.

Do you know any men that have gone through a divorce? I do - they can't afford anything.

Well, I got my newest bike by doing two things:
1) Mooning over nice cars in the $30-$50K range. I even went on a test drive or two. Bikes seem almost cheap by comparison.
2) Bought an old frame cheap on Ebay. Told her I was going to see how cheaply I could build a nice bike. Then I haunted Ebay, and all the online bike stores for the best price for each little bit. I ended up with this

And because I spread the spending over two months and over a dozen individual transactions, it didn't seem like $2000.
Or just sell one of the cars and split the proceeds. How many cars does one man need? (Says the man with 5 bikes) :D

That's a nice looking bike. I'm going to start another thread about buying used bikes.
I suggest changing your angle a little bit. It's not a matter of need, is it, but a matter of want? If you approach her, asking her first what she might *want* for herself, and after listening to her, explain that you would *like* another bike, she then might be more amiable? Good luck !

I like your user name. I guess you've followed your own advice which is why you have three too many?

As a friend of mine likes to say, just buy it. The whole thing will probably work out in the divorce.
Hmmm, the guilt angle, hmmm.
btw, I only have one bike and it's a department store bike at that! The problem is, we have five cars for three drivers. At least, she thinks it's a problem.
Sell one of the cars, buy your dream bike and something for the missus with the proceeds. Everyone should be happy.

There's always an old favorite - break the old one. Now you need a new bike!

This may backfire and result in the wife making you do more housework since you no longer have a bike to go ride.

I let my wife buy all the Coach purses she wants so she can't say anything about me buying a bike. Hehehe.

Damn it Chris! Stand up to her and demand a new bike! Follow it up with:
""I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.";)

That's generous. So you get a high end bike for every two purses?
