Mountain Biking - Sell Stock Fork (Dart 1) and buy a nicer one?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is just an idea I'm toying around with, but how much could I sell a Rock Shox
Dart 1 100mm with preload adjust for? Mileage is around 80 (basically new - came
stock with Trek 6000). I think it is a 100 dollar fork, so I was thinking selling it for
80 dollars would give the buyer an ok deal.

Then, what is a better fork that would be selling for under 300 dollars? I like the
feel of air suspension more so than coil springs because of my weight and how
responsive and sensitive it is to smaller bumps (I test rode a bike with a Fox F29 air
and WOW that was smooth (my LBS didn't really like the fact that I test rode it without
the intention to buy till I got the 6000 ;)). Plus, I'm starting XC.

This is just postulation  Thanks :)

I think you won't find many buyers for your fork. In terms of forks go, the Dart is as low as it goes, minus the RSTs and Suntours. Most people who are buying aftermarket forks are looking to upgrade. I think the only potential buyer might people people (foolish people at that) who try to upgrade their walmart bikes.

You can sell it for $20 on eBay and hope someone bids on it. I have the same fork and it works fine....

Bag the $20 you might get for it and keep it for a back up when you have to replace seals or something on a good fork. Yes, it will happen and rather than miss a ride while waiting for parts, swap them out or use it to hook up a fellow rider in a jam. A back up fork (even a crappy one) is good to have, trust me.

haha, 20 dollars? I'll keep the fork

PS - the fork works fine, I was just asking out of curiosity :)
