View Full Version : Scenic Recovery Ride on 8/26... possibly with Hetr...?

I know most folks are doing the jersey ride on the 25th but I won't be able to and I wanted to bring Heather (Hetr) along on a nice bike tour of the Bay Area/City on the 26th. The problem is that I can't pick her up and give her a ride to the meeting place in Mill Valley and she has no ride over there.

So, I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in possibly picking up Heather and ride along with my cousin's group and myself from Mill Valley, over the GG Bridge and around the City and back (about 35 miles total) this Sunday?

It's a moderate ride (read: no hammerfest) touring the City. The ride starts at 10am at the Edna McGuire School on Lomita Drive in Mill Valley.

Let me know if anyone is interested and can pick Heather up in the City. :)

Thanks!
Gary

Gary, thanks so much for posting this! You didn't have to go above and beyond. :)

Like Gary said, it would be great if someone else would like to go who would be commuting from San Francisco. I'd just need room for me (I'm small!) and a rented bike.

You mean start in Mill Valley... ride to the City and back to Mill Valley?
What bike will hetr be riding? taxi's Klein?

I'll taking the kids out on Sunday (for a ride in GGP probably) so I could
drive you up to MV. Since you'll be riding back to the city, you wouldn't
have to ride back to MV.

umm...why not just start from the city?

Heather, if Henry can give you a ride to Mill Valley in the morning than I can give you a ride back for sure. (My friend isn't able to make it so I'll have the room.) That is, if you don't just stick around in the City and not head back.

I just have some things to take care of before the ride so picking you up in the morning won't be possible. So hopefully you can get a bike and Henry can take you for the morning. :)

It's my cousin's club ride and they all are coming from San Rafael. So it's easier for his club to meet up North. :(

good reason. Well, if no one can give her a ride, it's notthat long of a ride to MV from SF. Maybe someone can lead her to MV on her bike. just a thought.

I would be renting a bike for the Sunday ride, as long as I can get one.

BlastRadius, I really wouldn't want you to have to go to San Francisco just to drive me to Mill Valley! That seems like so much trouble. I was hoping someone else would want to go on the ride with us. If it's not that much trouble for you, and if you have a bike rack, and if you would accept some kind of payment (falafel on tomorrow's ride?) or SOMETHING then I might accept. I don't want you to go out of your way though. Let me know, you can revoke your offer at any time. :D

We've been planning to go to GGP since last Sunday but didn't make it.

Luke is raring to take his trike out and Maddy and Annaleigh will be getting back into shape for soccer season by biking, and they'll be sporting there own NorCal jerseys. I'll just take the baby in a backpack carrier. Four kids at GGP is always a fun day. Plus I always find a way to make it to American Cyclery and all the other bike shops along Stanyan. :)

We have a Honda Odyssey with a hitch mounted bike rack so we should be OK for bike transport.

I would like to join this ride, but i would probably just ride to mill valley from the city. I would also like to know the point of driving to mill valley just to bike back to the city, especially if you are coming from the city to begin with!
If anyone wants to ride with me from the city let me know.
The ride to mill valley is an easy one, so you wouldn't be adding much to your ride.
If i may, i would suggest the paradise loop from GG bridge. In my opinion that would be a more pleasant ride to showcase our beautiful bay.

Zoltani, my cousin's club is based in San Rafael. So it's easier for them to start in the North Bay. I'm just tagging along, hence riding from Mill Valley to SF even though I live on this side. :)

But you may want to contact Hetr (Heather). She'll be riding from SF to Mill Valley and back. Maybe you can accompany her on the way up to meet us all at MV?

I might be able to accompany hetr to mill valley, but i would probably cut over to the paradise loop because riding with clubs is not my thing and the mill valley to SF route is not really that scenic or anything. Unless you call dodging hordes of tourists scenic...

It's called sharpening your defensive riding skills! hahaha!

Well, the plan is to hit different scenic/tourist areas around the city we take for granted as residents including GGPark, which would work good for Heather since I think that's near to where she's staying. So she can cut off from the group and call it a day.

Yeah, and it sure does get some use out of my bell.

Zoltani - maybe sometime soon you can lead a ride through paradise loop since I know I've never done that. Sounds like it'd be a nice ride.

As long as it's not a hammerfest... then I'd get dropped!

Heather, remember you're more than welcome to use the KHS all weekend or as long as you like. Cathy is not allowing me to ride the Diablo ride cause she thinks I'm not getting better from riding and working too much. So I'm in the dog house all day tomorrow (music day). You could pick it up anytime I get up every morning at six am: I think riding over there might be fun I'm confident with your ability and It's easy to get there, when you get to the bridge follow the stream of bikes to mill valley through sausalito, mikes bikes is right on the way they'll be hoards of bikers there to ask any question too.

Thanks so much, Pete! As long as you're sure you don't mind, I'll plan to pick up the bike tomorrow afternoon. I'll give you a call before I leave just to make sure you're at home. I picked up some riding gear today, I'm excited about wearing it!

Zoltani -- I would really appreciate the company to Mill Valley. I'm sure I can just follow the bikers like people have suggested, but it would be nice to have someone who knows their way around. I'd be leaving from just south of GGPark. Anyone know how long it takes to get there? I guess I need that info to decide what time to leave.

Does anyone have a specific map or directions on how to get to Mill Valley from SF (GG Park area) for Heather? I don't want her to get lost if it turns out zoltani can't ride up with her. (I've never ridden the route so I'm no help...)

Thanks!
Gary

For future reference, look at the website for big swingin' cycles for directions from SF to many of the popular rides in Marin.
