On my way home yesterday I saw a mom and 2 daughters ( 4 to 6 ish) bicyling. Not unusual, but what was cool was....Mom was on what looked like a Dutch bike, (black, fenders, full chainguard etc) and the daughters bikes were colorful, mini versions including racks and baskets, chainguards, fenders
I thought this was cool in that the kids will probably grow up see bikes as fun and functional. (my newest definition of utility...fun and functional)

As you might guess, they're quite common here. I love the basket.

We met a little girl on the bike path this weekend riding with her family. She was on a pink bicycle with little pink panniers. A lot of kid bikes sold over here (Germany) come equipped with racks, fenders, a bell and lights.

Pretty close......the chain guard was a full enclosed one.
Here the kids are going for BMX, Mountain bikes...and now cruisers. My son ( 9 3/4 years) has a BMX bike, but he commutes with it side by side with me (so as long as dad has baskets he's fine :D but I have a quick on/off rack that he will soon use )
I love that girls bike!
In Ohio, where it rains a plenty, no kids have properly equipped bikes. If you go to our middle school on a nice day, you will see 50 bikes. But, none with fenders or racks/baskets. Everyone brings a backpack and they don't ride on wet days. It's sad!:(
