Hi,
I am fixing a bike for a friend which has mechanical disc brakes. I have no experience of disc brakes and have come across a problem. I have a basic understanding of the brake works after taking it apart and examining it. The problem lies here; The brake consists a frame that mounts onto the fork and on that frame slides a thing which contains the pads and moving parts. It seems that this second piece is designed to slide side to side to allow the pads to lie in the correct position in relation to the disc. After sliding this part so there is a minute gap from either pad to the disc the wheel spins freely, but after pulling the brake once the disc starts to rub. It seems that the part that slides moves over so the pad rubs the disc when the brake is pulled, but it does not move back (note that this is not the main moving pad). I just can't fathom how this is supposed to work. The brakes are branded diatech but I can't find anything about them on the net.
Is that description enough for people to understand what I mean? I can post pics if necessary.
Thanks!
