(But I need a chainguard!! ack...)
Today I decided to venture a bit further for my useful biking; other than commuting (15 kms each way, but for some reason I didn't really think of that as very far), I think the furthest I'd been on a utility mission was the library about 4kms away, or one of the bead stores near my house. Today I followed part of my old commute route into the downtown area to pick up some jewellery supplies. I really picked the right craft to get into, much easier to transport beads, wire, etc in panniers than it would be to haul lumber or fabric!
It was about 9 kms each way and I had to learn how to lock my bike to a parking meter (more challenging than you'd think) but the mission was a success! Actually I found a couple of useful new supply shops AND one of them offered me a wholesale deal, so all in all a very successful day.
Because I was going in and out of shops I tried to wear "normal" clothes over my cycling stuff. This was a mixed success in that I looked normally clothed but abnormally sweaty... however, I did confuse the living daylights out of a fellow on a road bike when I kept up with him while wearing a skirt :D Hee hee. Had a couple of friendly conversations with passers by while I was securing my bike and at path intersections, which was nice too.
