Fifty Plus (50+) - Texas Catheter?

Ok, fess up, how many of you grizzled veteran riders have heard that phrase, or used one of these to keep from stopping?

I'm not sure how you would route the tubing that goes with that, but I would think it would be of paramount importance not to mistake that tube for your Camelbak tube...

Bibs are no more difficult for a "number one" (for guys, at least) than regular bike shorts. Just roll the leg up.

A "number two" is an entirely different matter, especially if you put your jersey over the bib straps, or, as at some times around here when it is colder, a couple of jerseys/underlining and a jacket.

I've heard them called "Mardi Gras" catheters. Even saw a picture of a guy taking a P next to a cop car.

Do they come in extra large?

I'm trying to remember the last time I read references to number 1 and 2. I guess when you start a thread on catheters, things are bound to go downhill from there, huh.

This all came up when a friend said he saw riders equipped with catheters at last year's Hotter 'N Hell Hundred. Curiosity got the best of me and I had to research that a bit. That's how I found the reference to "Texas catheter", which is more properly called an external catheter.

I'm not sure how you would route the tubing that goes with that, but I would think it would be of paramount importance not to mistake that tube for your Camelbak tube...

It's a number 3 that really challenges one.

I work as an ER nurse and am familiar with 'em. I don't think that they would work very well.
1. The collection bag attaches to your leg. Regular bike shorts/tights wouldn't allow enough room for the bag to fill.
2. If you wore loose fitting clothing and allowed the bag to fill, you'd have one leg heavier than the other, and the you'd also have to deal with the liquid sloshing around with each pedal stroke.
3. because of the leg attachment, such a system wouldn't work on a 'bent because you wouldn't have enough drainage
4. If you are talking about eliminating the collection bag and just using the condom with a tube attached to it, then you are still going to have urine in the tube after you finish. i.e. if you whip out the tube to urinate as you ride that's fine... but when you go to tuck the tube back in, you might end up with "dribbling" in your nice bike shorts.

LOL. Like I said, my friend was made aware of riders who did this, and when I googled bike catheter, there it was, more than I ever wanted to know about using a catheter on a bike. I thought it was so hilarious, I figured I'd ask about it here. I apologize to those I offended with this thread. Sometimes my sense of humor is .............. well, just my sense of humor.

Not sayin' I doubt the Texan who told me that everything is big in Texas ... but I'm starting to doubt his telling me that he buys his catheters at the Sears Garden Department.

This would be ideal for track racing, the extra weight would help you on the corners:)
