Touring - OrtLieb handlebar bag - what to do with a light?

I have a Ortlieb handlebae bag. I have a light that mounts on the handlebar. The only place it seems it will mount without the bag getting in the way is on the downward curve for the drops. But then the light gets in the way of the brake lever.

Other than a helmet mounted light. Or the Minoura Swing grip (I have have one and I hate it. And the stubby Minoura (not meant for carbon forks). Where can I mount the light?

Where are you going? Is it commuting, or a tour? Where?

I ask because, it might depend on the country...for example, when I was in Amsterdam, front lights seemed to be for being seen, definitely not big enough to help see the road. Some of them were worn around the neck, a necklace with a light pendant. Lights were on only at dusk/night.

A guy at work has a couple of Vistalites (the really old ones;)) mounted on his drops at the end of the bar. I'd probably whack my knees on them but they seem to work for him. Lights are mounted to the inside of the bar, by the way.

How about a fork mount? Mount them at the crown on a reflector bracket. You could use the tube from the Minoura grip

Instead of a Minoura mount, get a Cronometro Nob. Its a plastic stub with a plastic wormgear strap that is designed for mounting computers on Aerobars. But, it is very good for mounting lights on forks and can be safely used on carbon forks.

I have lights mounted on the fork. It's works okay but not ideal. My problem is that the wheel obstructs part of the beam.

Because I use a handlebar bag for touring and sometimes around town, I have my front light mounted on the left front fork. (If I were in a country where driving was on the left side of the road, I'd mount the light on the right fork.) It's a fairly big and bright light and it works well from the fork. I may eventually devise a way to mount the light on the front rack.

i use a crown mount. my bag mounts well above the light, and i've got no problems with the light having to shine through the wheel.

You could mount a 2nd stem with a piece of handlebar on your steer tube or quill, if they are long enough. Mount the bag on the secondary bar and keep the light on the bar top. I've done it (inspired from here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=330289&highlight=steerer+tube) and here (http://www.mgagnon.net/velo/potence-double.en.shtml)), not elegant but quite practical :)
