Gibo has signed with the Serramenti Selle Italia team. They're not a ProTour team, only a continental pro team so they were denied entry to the Giro last year which is why they signed Simoni. Pretty cool. I'm sure they'll be accepted to the Giro this year but without a strong support team, I wonder how Simoni will do and if he'll make the podium again.

No problem. It'll also be interesting since the UCI is going to have to make some concessions to the Grand Tour organizers, likely opening more spots for non-ProTour teams. That might mean we could see more teams like Serramenti Selle Italia, Slipstream and Barloworld signing good pros. I wonder how it will change the pro landscape.

Those aren't the concessions they are asking for, because they (ASO et al) already take and exclude whoever the heck they want. They could care less who enters the races they don't control.

The argument's all about which rich guy will knock down a bit of his ego and hand over a bigger share of the diminishing pile of loot they will be getting as they slowly screw themselves (but mostly the riders) by acting like they are all poverty stricken and that extra 3% of TV revenue rights will make the difference between eating out of dumpsters or not, while screwing over people who walk into the sport with bags of cash expecting some return on their investment.

Well,

with Pro Tour teams dropping like flies: Disco, Unibet, Astana, there are sure to be many Pro-Tour riders trying to get at least a pay check for the next year until things settle out. The quality of racing in the Continental circuit is going to be amazing.

Wages are already down - Ballan has just been offered half of what he was offered in June as Lampre have cut their budget.
I'm sure he won't be the only one. :D

That one slipped by me as well. It's nice to come in here and discover it in addition to getting a wide variety of commentary on the subject.
