Okay - grease on the cleat bolts but what about the pedals. The springs come with grease, but wouldn't flushing through with chain lube once a week be better?

Once a month with dry lube.

My SPD's came with grease as well. After reading several sources that recommended a few drops of lube instead of greasing, I tried it and it works fine. It doesn't colect dirt and mud as quickly. I use Finish Line Cross-Country lube on my pedals.

I use a teflon-based lube, like Tri-Flow. Works, as it prevents the squeaking from dry pedals.
