"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - San Francisco Grand Prix

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Joe,
Here are some more fotos: http://www.geocities.com/tomziller/sfgp/index.html
I had originally hoped to take the train to SF and blast away with many cameras and long lenses, but my wife said, "let's ride," so we did. I did tape the 6-hour live coverage by the local abc affiliate, however, so I was able to watch and get the full effect of the suspense. Here is the report from the local station http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/news/090701_nw_grand_prix.html
Here's the USPS blurb on the race: http://www.uspsprocycling.com/01news/news01_0910.htm
VeloNews and the ProCycling site both had articles and results from the race, but I don't seem to be able to find them in the archives right now. ??

Reading the USPS blurb, i came upon info about fillmore hill, a half-mile climb with an average gradient of nearly 18%! 18%?!? I dont know if i would dare ride DOWN this hill :)

Heck, Joe, it's scary going up Fillmore in a CAR! You worry about stalling out, and when you get to the top you feel like one of those submarines doing an emergency surface: nose way up in the air (no visibility of what's in front of you) and then flopping down on the flat cross street. There are a number of SF streets that have steps cut in the middle of the sidewalks, and Fillmore is one of them.
