Did I hear this wrong? He was a Cat IV at the start of last year, upgraded to III last fall, and started the year this year as a II? He's only now thinking about upgrading to Cat I???
Yeah, it seems to me that if you're wearing a white jersey with rainbow stripes on it that you didn't buy online, you can bypass the points system. I'll let ya.

True that he has just been racing two years but keep in mind he's only 17 now. Davis looks like he's still in damn good shape despite his condition.

Does Davis have Parkinson's disease?
What condition?

Correct.
I raced against him as a 3 last year and likely now as a 2. He is the real deal. Gobs of power at threshold and a killer sprint. If he wants it he will be in the pro-tour by 20.

Did I just hear his dad say that Taylor can put out 2,000 watts? That's droping the hamer people.
Genes blessed by the ultimate cycling power-couple. Now he just has to keep his head together and not squander the gift. No pressure there, eh?

There is a Jr racer in our area that is maybe 13 (he's 110 lbs) and in one of the TT by us, beat a few 4 man team TT times, as well as many catIII's and II times. Some people just have it.

I saw an 11 or 12 year old kid at Track Nationals who won every race he started and he had legs bigger than mine.
::EDIT:: Now I'm pissed. He's targeting the 3k Pursuit in track. It's war.

Wow, 2000 watts?! That's 24 Watts per kg for Phinney. I believe Armstrong could only put out 7 Watts per kg. of power for 20 minutes. Landis' 5 second max was 900 watts. And considering Phinney is using junior gearing, I find that extra impressive.
Someone is making numbers up, and it ain't me.

C'mon man don't tell me your that dense. That figure is for instantaneous power, i.e. 1 second max. His 5 second power is probably around 1700-1800 which is crazy high for his age and height/weight.

FYI, nobody trains on Junior gearing. $100 says he was using an 11-21 or something of the sort.

Sprint power vs 20 minute power... hmm... which one will be bigger?
My self-measured sprint is about 1300W, and I'm a middle of the pack cat 4.
Get your numbers straight.
Hi,
Davis looks great given his Parkinson's but it is still sad to see his decline. I saw a video of him a few years ago and he has gotten noticeably worse. :(
I think that Taylor has great potential given what he has done so far. He does sound like a very intelligent young man.

That's funny. The juniors that ride in group rides in SoCal, including the one that won a jersey at nationals and the ones that won medals, train on their junior gears.

There is great piece of video from the 1990 worlds road race championship where Davis is talking to John Tesh about his new baby and shows him a picture of Taylor.. Taylor definitely has 2 great role models and the genes to be a great racer..
6-4 wow he must have recieved Connie's height.
