OK, a few times I saw a little figure on the yellow jersey. It was the french word "Je" (I) followed by a fairly abstract image of a cyclist. It obviously meant "Je vole" or "I cycle". I;ve been trying to find an image of this for my avatar, but just try searching the web for "Je vole" :P I guess I'm gonna need an image of the yellow jersey that I can crop. I saw it once on the shoulders and on the left breast when Lance won the TdF. I've looked but haven't found one yet. Any help?

PS It was the awarded jersey, not the one he wore during a stage...

Actually, it's the article "le," as in "Le Tour de France." The word "Tour"in the year's logo contains an abstract image of a cyclist.

It is the image Lotek posted, only in black. It's wrinkled in the pic, but you can see it.

"Je vole" means "I fly". There are no French equivalent for "I cycle". "Je pédale" (I pedal) maybe, or "Je roule" (I roll, I ride).

No, it's not the "Tour de France" image. I actually found one but it was a bit wrinkled. It's below. A clear image of this would be great...
Aso, thanks for the French lesson. Not sure where I picked up that "voler" was "To bicycle". Probably got it confused with "vélo" :P Guess it'd be "Je fait du vélo", assuming I have my gender correct :P

I believe it is actually the initials of the guy who started the tour Henri Desgrange.. if it is what I am thinking

Sorry, just one more French lesson. It's "Je fais du vélo." Your gender is correct, though. :)

ARGH!!!! Thanks BikerTeen! :P Believe it or not, I have a degree in French. I've always been better at speaking and reading than writing. All my compsition papers in college came back bleeding :P But since I teach math, these days, I can get away with it. When I go to France, I just make sure I don't write anything down ;)

It is, indeed, the initials of Henri Desgranges. It used to be embroidered on all the yellow jerseys, and the ASO/STdF decided to return it to the jersey to mark the centenary.

Y'know it took me more than two weeks to realise the logo was a guy on a bike. Every year it's a guy on a bike, every year I never see it :)

Peloton, I think we're talking of different images. Look at my avatar to see what I'm talking about...
To me that looks like an H and a D. Although I like the idea that it means I fly that would be interesting. European people have fancy writing so it can be hard to read.
I do think you might be stretching it though about that figure being a crude cyclist. To me it looks like an upside down heart lol.

Peloton has it right. Those are the initials of Henri DesGranges which were added to this year's jersey as a nod to the centenary.

Could you tell me how? To me, that is obviously the french word "Je" followed by a rather abstract figure on a bicycle, meaning "I cycle" I see no "H" or "D"

I guess I could understand how what I see as "Je" could be an "H" but I totally can't see how the second figure is a "D"... And if the "Je" is a "H" and a "D" together, you're gonna how to show this slow fool :P

It's a "de" followed by a stylized "G" on its side... and I guess the proper spelling of his name is Degrange...
:)
It's not "de m" for "de marchi", who make cycling jerseys is it?

The bicyclist, is the R in the TdF logo.
Carl,
what you are using for your avatar is HD for Henri DeGrange.
I think that Phil and Paul talked about it on the first
stages of the tour. It is in honor of DeGrange who started the
tour and had the same initials embroidered on early yellow
jerseys.
I recall seeing a picture of one of the early ones, I'll try
to track it down.
Marty
Here is what VeloNews had to say about it in another
article:
. . . has been confirmed by the Tour organization's decision to put back the "H.D" initials on the shoulders of the overall leader's and winner's yellow jersey. . .
