Recreational & Family - 2008 Burley Piccolo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Contacted Burley & they indicated that they are producing the Piccolo again starting in January, 2008. Burley said the new model will be similar to the older Piccolos, but will be less expensive (probably made offshore now?). They did not have a price set yet--I'll be surprised if they'll still be made in U.S.A.--hopefully the Moose Rack will become available again as an option to buy separately!

This is excellent news. :)
Aargh, I need one like yesterday. But yeah, January seems like a great time to start production, just after the Christmas rush. ??? Come on, Burley!
I wouldn't expect a christmas rush on something like this. Buy it when you need it and go.

99% of Americans have never seen such a product nor care that one exists.

Apparently Burley is introducing the 'new' Piccolo at the bike trade show in Las Vegas at the end of September--they're not giving out any more info about it until then, except to say it will cost less than the earlier (USA made) Piccolos--maybe they are attempting to create a 'buzz' about it by being mum!

Too late, got our Adams this summer...
Yeah, I couldn't wait and picked up an Adams too. If the Burley comes out and is priced right, maybe I'll switch, but the Adams has been pretty solid so far.

The Adams and the Burley have always been top of the line performers. I personally use a Fisher "Freeloader" that I found on Craiglist and a great discount over retail. This is the same bike as what Trek sells and seems to work well enough for my purposes. I am sure that once I am done with it, that I'll be able to sell it for what I have into it with little problem.
Burley is a great company to work with. They have had their issues the past couple of years and are what I would consider in a re-building mode. They are back to their roots with trailers and 1/2 bikes and I wish their company well.

Apparently the re-introduced Piccolo will be a single speed model only.

I read Sheldon Brown's report about the Vegas show, it implied that there would be 2 models. I emailed him and he replied that yes there is going to be 2 models. A single speed and a multispeed.
The multispeed version of the Piccolo will retail for $299. A cheaper, single-speed version will be available for $239.

You are correct. I speed read "Fortunately, they've now re-introduced the Piccolo, and a similar, but less expensive single speed version", and missed the dual context.

There is a moose rack on ebay now (not mine) - and I plan to list my burley piccolo soon (shameless plug)!
